It is believed by many, unbeknownst to all, that our duty and profession is loved by everybody. That isn't quite true. Moreover, it just isn't true. There are those out there who for whatever reason, dislike or even hate the military/DoD. Could it be that they had a loved one that experienced a sexual assault in the military/DoD? Could it be that another loved one died? Could it be a leadership failure that another experienced? Could be it none of these? Could it be all of these?

I want to examine your thought processes on the matter in a respectful yet quality manner regardless of identity or personal political beliefs. This is an awkward subject in addition to being a complex subject with a multitude of valid and deeply personal reasons and convictions. This subject is also an advanced one for a sophisticated audience set.

Those assholes don't realize we are the military arm of National Powers run by politicians. They are also ignorant to the fact the freedoms they take for granted is often paid with blood.

MAJ Ken Landgren some of them DO realize that we are the military arm of national politicians. And that is precisely why they despise us.

MAJ Ken Landgren I love reminding people of that. Certainly nothing you or I dreamed up on the back of a bar napkin because we needed an adventure. In the immortal words of Sergeant Muldoon, "Foriegn policy decisions are not made by the military. A Soldier goes where is told to go and fights who he is told to fight." Regrettably, can't find that on youtube. But this bit was. https://youtu.be/Yb7tb548Ngk

MAJ Ken Landgren no statistics, but anecdotally, many I’ve encountered don’t understand War Powers Act, AUMF, Posse Commitatus, Title 10, Title 32, Title 14, the Unified Command Plan, Presedential Diectives, the constitutional and federal law about the interaction between DOD, Services, POTUS, and Congress.

Since time immemorial, and in many species beyond humans, the warrior class is the one that is most likely to mate. So if you're not part of the warrior class, at least for males, you're more likely to be off in the corner taking care of business by yourself. So the softies, particularly in academia, need to come up with some sort of propaganda putting down the warrior class in hopes that they may get to mate almost as often as the hunters -- the ones who provide safety and food for the village.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - I'm not the first to think like that. Give some of the credit to William Shakespeare. From Henry V, Act 4, Scene 3, line 66 (I think), the Band of Brothers Speech:
"And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their MANHOODS CHEAP whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

Who am I to disagree with the Bard of Stratford-upon-Avon? I'm just one of "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers."

SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" I think there are many reasons but peer group thought probably has a lot to do with it. When I returned from Vietnam, I was in uniform at LAX when myself and other Marines were confronted by protestors that tried to block our way. I had one woman tell me to repent for my sins, and a teenage girl asked me how many babies had I killed. My best friend was killed the day after I left country, so I was not in a good frame of mind. When I was in college, I encountered many students that hated the military and veterans. I was working full time and going to school full time, so keeping busy helped me. I can't stand protestors period.

SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" Vietnam was just the beginning, the indoctrination of our young has been ongoing since the 60’s.

One of the not so good parts of being a Moderator on Military dot com was the number of kids that would sign on and ask recently returned Veterans from Afghanistan and/or Iraq how many confirmed kills they had. You could not stop the question from being asked and posted in public and it was hard for me personally to treat that kid with any respect from then on. Though I know the source of that was the various video games put out these days that put that thought to ask the question initially in their heads. Also the whose CIB was earned infighting based on what Soldiers heard via rumor mill or accounts of battle. That reached some fairly disgraceful levels at times. Had one idiot post that a specific Infantry unit deserved to finally get bloodied in the GWOT as they had been skating up until that point. You read stuff like that and wonder about the score keeper who published it.
