Your commander is required to return you early enough to comply with your PCS instructions.

You shouldn’t have even deployed if you had a class date. You should have been placed on the Rear D UIC so that you didn’t have this to worry about. However, due to COVID-19, the commanders have been lenient with Soldiers and are working to ensure you get the time you need to prepare for household move and clearing post.

Typically, you need 45 days to make all arrangements however now it’s 80 days because transportation office is backed up due to COVID-19. So Commanders are allowing Soldiers to RTB from deployment at least 120 days out. Again, that’s not a regulation, this is the command team looking out for the best interest of the Soldier and Army.

Also, like many have mentioned, you should not have deployed at all if you re-enlisted to reclass to a different MOS. Now with that being said, you are required to report to that class and that should also be in the realm of 120 days “theoretically speaking”. Good luck and hope you have a good relationship with your command team. I would recommend developing some supporting documents prior to your open door policy meeting. At a minimum, I would develop a timeline for your PCS on a Word or PPT document that helps you logically and systematically explain your request for X number of days. Be sure to put NLT dates for specific tasks like HHG, CIF, clearing, COVID quarantine, SRP, etc. on the document. The business rules will outline specific dates for which action should be taken ie., SPC Doe John has a reporting date of 15 Feb 2021. Business rules states anyone with a date of 10 Feb or earlier will remain on rear detachment. Therefore the CDR will determine SPC Doe as going forward per the guidance of the business rules published.

If a SM is on orders to PCS and has gone forward for deployment; typical business rules states an individual will return 60 days prior to start of the Soldiers PCS leave date, and 90 days prior to start of ETS leave. That packet is endorsed by your BN CDR through the DIV command in the theater in which you’re trying to depart. Your local S-1 will have all required documents to action this process.

It’s usually a simple process. If your unit meets the army manning requirements they are pretty good at adhering to the standard. If not, they will request deferment of a members orders (Not to exceed 120 days) to sustain manning requirements for deployment operations.
