What AR states you have to have your profile physically on you when you take the APFT?

Long story short even though I had submitted the proper paperwork months ago to my RNCO my permanent profile was not updated to reflect the 2.5 mile walk as my aerobic event. Even though I took and passed the APFT, with the assumption that my profile was updated, my unit is now telling me that the APFT won't count because my profile wasn't correct. The TNCO is stating that they aren't accountable because I didn't have my profile physically printed out and on my person and didn't know that it was wrong, that it is my fault and they have no accountability for not updating the profile.

So my question is; what AR states that you are required to have a copy of your permanent profile on you? I've looked in AR 350-1 and AR 40-501

Before I address the initial question, I'm going to ask for a clarification. When you say that "the APFT won't count because [your] profile wasn't correct," do you mean that they're saying the paperwork for the profile itself wasn't done correctly and you aren't eligible for it (and thus need to get the paperwork done over again), or do you mean that because they didn't update your profile, the APFT didn't count?

Addressing the initial question, AR 350-1 governs the APFT, and AR 40-501 governs the DA Form 3359, so if neither of them states a requirement that you have it in your possession when you take the APFT, you aren't required by Army regs to have it in your possession when you take the APFT.

There could be a local regulation or policy that requires that you have it in your possession when you show up for your APFT. But if there is something that says you're supposed to have it in your possession, that doesn't invalidate the APFT you took and passed, it just means that you're in violation of local regulation or policy (in which case, it might be better to re-take the APFT, rather than pointing out that *technically* you aren't required to have it for the APFT to be valid, because someone might then realize that *technically* they can hammer you for failing to follow the local regulation).

All that said, however, prudent Soldiers will have it available in case someone with an over-exaggerated sense of self-importance tries to make them do something that their profile says they aren't supposed to be doing.

If you don't have a DA 3359 that says you're supposed to do the 2.5 mile walk as your aerobic event, and you did the 2.5 mile walk as your aerobic event, the APFT can't count, because unless your profile *says* you're supposed to do the 2.5 mile walk, an APFT that includes a 2.5 mile walk instead of the run can't be a record APFT for you.

It's always best practice to just have your profile on you in case something gets messed up. I had it on me in SLC - well they told us to bring it but never checked them at the APFT.

You have to make sure that your profile gets updated to your MEDPROS. You can't just submit it and then assume it's updated in the system. When I got mine, I went in and checked to see that it was there.

this is a open door policy issue meaning it needs to go thru the 1SG then CSM... get a copy of your profile that covers those dates and .. common sense should show through.. why a leader isn't getting to the bottom this is beyond me.. this shouldn't even be a issue but someone is going overboard....

There is no regulation, it's one of those made up add to type things. Some Soldiers would bullshyt and say they on profile to keep from taking apft. So the easiest way to fix that was telling people to have profiles to verify........ but regardless if your profile was updated or not, that's an easy fix. Your people just have to use the common sense factor....

Theres a reason your commander signs your profile. That acknowledges the units knowledge of the profile and everything that comes with it. Having a copy on you is a made up rule to catch spammers. But it's in the system and your CO should know of it which is enough. Take that to whomever says different.

If they are using the same profiles they had when I was in the profile itself answers your question! A profile must be in your possession at all times!! If your senior asks you for your profile you must immediately present it!!!
