What are army barracks like while deployed on a F.O.B?

One factor to consider is the budget your unit has. I had an awesome tent with an awesome A/C unit with a fridge and bunk beds and... I could go on. Aviation units have big budgets.

Another factor is the mission. Are you at an airfield like I was? Are you at a bigger base or smaller base? Are you getting shot at all the time? Simple practical questions can help you understand.

However, realize that the Army is shifting gears. We are no longer aiming to head downrange and coast for a few months behind hesco barriers. We are shifting to large scale combat operations. Top brass thinks we have gotten too complacent with our downrange mindsets. So it would be age to expect that there will be less luxuries in our deployment; we want to be mobile.

This is what ours looked like about 12 years ago. Had 3 wall mounted AC units to keep the whole building cool.

Barracks?
If you are referring to Afghanistan, mostly Quonset huts.
If Iraq, most likely tents. Hard buildings in Baghdad.

It's a mixed bag depending on the size of the FOB and resources available. It also depends on how long it's been since the FOB was established. If it's a rural outpost with limited resources you will be lucky to find flush toilets, showers and a chow hall or DFAC. You'll be in a tent if lucky type of thing. But if it is a more robust FOB with serious resources you can expect MWR tents, real DFAC, real shower/toilets, nice tents with AC or some form of Can. There is not just one answer to this question because everything depends on everything. I spent 7 months in Afghanistan in 04 and saw the worst and best. It's all relative.

Depends who you are with and where you are. Currently...in a hard stand with better internet than I had in the states, AC, a real bed, and a mini fridge.

But I have also been in tents, and shacks.

FOBs or COBs were usually the more built up bases when I deployed in Iraq. I don't know about in Afghanistan what those are like. The patrol bases were the crappy little outposts that had barely anything on them. It ranges from nothing to a built up base with amenities.

We had CHU’s. AKA containerized housing units which were shipping containers divided into 3 two man rooms Ours had window mounted air conditioners that cooled it down to about 95
