What are my chances of getting Germany for a first duty station as a 12N?

I know you get assign to whatever duty station, the army need you. But I been doing research (googles) the a lot soldiers, get Germany as their first duty station. Which I would like to get what are the chances of actually get it?

Honestly there’s really no probability of getting that as your duty station it’s pretty much luck of the draw. When you’re about to graduate AIT you get to put down 3 duty stations on what’s called a wish list which is taken into consideration but it still draws down to the Army’s needs. A lot of 1st term Soldiers that get Germany as their first duty station got super lucky. You have a chance just like any other new recruit coming in, but don't know the chances. It all depends on unit strength and needs....I will tell you, it's not good to get Germany as your first duty station because you will get spoiled in LALA Land.......... I think you need to get a taste of what the real Army is like in one of the major divisions........... But if you stay in the Army long enough, you will eventually get your vacation and come to Germany...........

I hope you get what you wish for, the only way I got to go overseas was to do an enlistment extension for a year, it was well worth it.

If it’s not already in your contract, you will have to graduate AIT in the top five f your class, have a mentor in GE that can request through your Branch to have you assigned or be a kid of a CSM or General Officer...if not a dependent of a high ranking person; your best bet is to excel at school and get to work an assignment to GE. I know if you ask for Korea you would probably get that

They will give you a base preference sheet and you can list Germany as #1 and 4 others. Germany and Korea are filled frequently so you'll likely end up there if a spot opens. I had a few friends go to Korea than Germany. But you'll likely only go to each once (Korea maybe twice) in your career. If you go to fort hood Texas, most go to Korea from there, then Germany. So you can list fort hood if you wish. Big Red One (1st infantry) is out of Germany I believe. Alaska and Hawaii are rare. So put Germany as #1, Korea as #2 and if your comfortable with Texas, list it as #3. Lots of guys go overseas from Texas when I was there it was like 30% went to Germany or Korea. You're very likely to get Texas so be patient knowing you'll likely be overseas soon after.

I had a friend whose first duty station was Iraq (deployed straight out of AIT) so remember, it could be worse.

Many Soldiers do get Germany as their 1st assignment. Unfortunately right out of basic you can’t request a specific assignment. Rest assured if you don’t get it as your 1st assignment it is highly likely that you will get Germany and/or Korea sooner or later.
