If some how you get Humphreys instead you can ask to bring your family. Since you can go unaccompanied your family can stay where you put them on your orders, whether that be where you stationed at now or your family home. What is your report date and how big is your family? What advice has your current leadership provided? Have you called or emailed your branch? They might help you but Korea is a priority assignment. Is your wife okay? It could be a blessing in disguise. You might could see if know someone else who’d go in your place. How many children do you have? You’re wife could go spend a year with her family in her hometown. You can use it as an opportunity to save money... Lastly, refuse to go but that is the least favorable option. There may be more that I am unaware of? Unaccompanied means one year. Small PX, no on-post family housing, limited local medical services, schools etc. The other consideration is your MOS and gaining unit. Casey and Hovey are very near the border, you may be spending a lot of time deployed. So did you request Korea and reenlist for it or did you come on assignment to Korea and then reenlist?

All of Korea is a dependent restricted tour, not just Casey. (I left Korea in 2016), but I had met people before that worked in Area I and had their families housed in Area II. They either made the commute daily or were given a barracks room on Camp Casey during the week and could go be with their families on the weekend. Now, Area II is also mostly closed now, so that definitely affects things. If you are able to get your family housed in Area III then you would certainly only be able to see them on the weekends because it's too far of a commute to do daily. Unfortunately, I have no idea how you would actually go about requesting this, so I'm not sure if this really helps. I just know that I've seen it happen before.
