I’m in college and joined for tuition assistance and decided on Army because I liked the job better than those offered by Air Guard. Ive been looking into the option for Air guard because of better quality of life, more 2 day drills, and less/shorter deployments. The shorter deployments and shorter drills are what interest me the most because I want to focused mainly on college. My questions are:
1. How much choice do I have as to what job I choose? My job (15T, Blackhawk mechanic) is used in the Air Force but I don’t think in my state. I’ve got a good asvsb score but I’m not sure how likely it would be to get a job I want.
2. How early can I hope to transfer/get in contact with a recruiter? I don’t want to contact a recruiter and have them ignore me because I’m too early in my enlistment to switch.
3. How likely is it that I would be able to switch?
That’s about it, you can call me stupid for not knowing what I was doing when I joined but I just want to know what my options are now. What are my options to switch from Army National Guard to Air Guard? 2018-09-05T18:26:17-04:00 PV2 Private RallyPoint Member 3939906

Currently early on in my enlistment for Army National Guard. I am going to suspect you will have to serve some time before the INARNG cuts you loose to another unit, let alone a whole different service. As a former Guard guy myself, they don't like to loose people if they don't have too. You might have to be a little flexible in terms of what jobs you want in the ANG because your local ANG unit might not have the job you want. When the ANG have the job you want you might have to travel a long ways to get there. Depending of what job you want you might also have to take the ASVAB and go through MEPS again because sometimes the ANG would not accept your Army ASVAB. Like I said before talk to your local ANG recruiter. I think with your MOS you can transfer easily. Like I said above you have to find a Air National Guard Unit that has helicopters. To make it easy I think you should finish out your contract with the Army National Guard Unit. If your current unit lets you transfer you might not get any bonuses when you enlist in the Air National Guard unit. Went and talked to an ANG recruiter. He asked for a release from the NG. Talked to my CO and he signed it, a month later I enlisted in the ANzg and was off to Loadmaster school a month after that.
