But, from what I've seen, families enjoy Campbell, Carson and Germany a whole lot. You’re not really in an MOS that could get you to a location that wouldn’t deploy or go to the field. You will be able to pick your occupation which requires no travel or field time. The service life is hard for everyone starting out in life. It gets better with TIS and promotions but the "Train" never slows down....... We weren't taken, sent home and sent back again but spent the full year in the war zone. You could take a R&R, Rest and relaxation but not to go home but elsewhere to approved locations) One return to the US we could ask for base of preference as long as they had vacant positions for Your AFSC, Air Force Specialty Code usually You could be assigned there. I did after that get three first choice bases in a row, Hanscom AFB, MA , Lowry AFB, CO then Hickham AFB, HI I don't see that happening now however with often excessive deployments. Also with a smaller number of people often those still there get overworked and has less to work with esp in a peacetime Military. The needs of the service do come first as they should however there was a better way of doing that at one point it seems. You will very likely deploy, but the community does an excellent job of taking care of families, even when the Soldier is home, let alone when deployed.
