I don't know about the best, but back in 94 when I was at PLDC the yellow bird got outlawed by our instructors because everyone was using it. Easy to remember, and we all had to take turns marching to chow and stuff and sing cadence so yellow bird it was until about day 3, he threw his hat down and swore to grass drill the next soldier who sang yellow bird.

they don't have to be perfect and substitute time with counts, from scratch listen to and recite some, can change words if it's your cadence.. many to choose from 'oh hail infantry' ill try to remebr partially one from basic, i dont know all the words, oh 'til i get on back home' 'captain jack',

Okay we've listed some of the great cadences of our time, now how about sounding off with some of the ones you hated.
I'm going to start off with SpongeBob Squarepants, who knew that it could be sung as a marching cadence.

depends on who's calling it. I've heard some really good and some really bad cadence callers. one of my favorites is Bill Murray in "STRIPES". I used that one myself, and was surprised at how many knew the proper response.

I had 2 great Drill Instructors who "yodeled" and sang their cadence "lo ah lo, roda lo ah lo" "Left your Left, Right left). almost impossible to write or duplicate unless you heard it. It's an art but it was very motivating. When he called cadence all you heard from 55 recruits were One step at a time.

Most good cadence destroyed by pic police and whimp DI's.
One I remember is Engineer cadence.

At the ROTC pre-commissioning camp in Ft. Lewis, '03, we countercolumned while whistling John Wm's "Imperial March" from Star Wars, and stepped off sometimes to "Do-wa-ditty-ditty-dum-ditty-doo!"
And DS Carter, at Jackson in '99, was the most prolific repository I've met for bawdy cadences. And the females in 4/E/2-13 would sound off with a will on 'em!
