As a young Marine I was informed many years ago not anything having to do with terrorism and counter-terrorism would lead the way as far as consideration by those in command for meritorious promotion. They were right then and I think I'm right now by stating we have not seen a decline in terrorism but an increase. I would recommend the same field of study regarding terrorism and counter-terrorism, and I might throw in one more thing and that would be Insurgency and counterinsurgency. For any forward operating Marine you want to know what you're getting yourself into as far as culture of the land you will be possessing. You will also want to know what their belief structures are about in the United States and in particular how they feel about u.s. Marines. some locations can be hostile tore our Warrior ethos and set up Small Arms attacks by way of snipers or IEDs. I think it's just better to be informed on the issue and to be surprised by it. I salute you in man on your continuing education in the Marine Corps Institute.
