SSG Private RallyPoint Member 6328653

I will be PCSing to FT. Jackson for DS duties next month, I was looking for some advice on off post housing areas due to on post housing backlog. We are a family of 6 prefer a 2 story for security purposes, in a descent area that is safe for the little ones.

Second question. If anyone has dealt with this, after my time as a DS I will hit 10 years although retirement seems like a good thought it am already burnout before DS so I am hoping it will bring in some more excitement. 11B E6 no combat deployments stationed JBLM and Carson although both bases surrounding areas are nice the units, at least the ones I've been in, are straight trash. I have no plans to go back to the line but rather try something else SFAB, SF, PSYOPS if not then I was planning to get out and take my chances with 2.5 years of prepping of course due to not wanting to be completely burnt out for 10 years and just chasing a pension.

Have any of you been in this position where perhaps you know the Army is probably the best course of action yet you're not all in? What are some good places to live near FT. Jackson? 2020-09-20T13:50:06-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 6328653

I will be PCSing to FT. I did some time as a 19D and then switched over to aviation and I get burnt out at times but watching those helicopters fly and knowing I had a big part of that never gets old. Sometimes a change of scenery helps.

I've never been to Jackson so i can't help you there. Have you looked into Warrant Officer opportunities? There are few WO MOS's that take any feeder MOS now assuming you meet the Prerequisites. I know 131A opened up to 11B's a couple of years ago. I spent a lot my DS time knocking out prerequisites in case I wanted to take this route. I recently submitted a packet and got selected and will be headed to Warrant Officer Candidate School in a few weeks. Follow the link for more information.
https://recruiting.army.mil/ISO/AWOR/ARMY_FEEDER/

As for Ft. Jackson, I was only there while attending the academy. It seemed like a nice place, plenty of things to do in the surrounding areas. Good luck!

 Army Feeder MOS List

The official website for the Army Recruiting Command (USAREC)

Response by CW2 Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 20 at 2020 3:25 PM 2020-09-20T15:25:22-04:00 2020-09-20T15:25:22-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 6330150

Polo commons was great it’s right by sesquicentennial park Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 20 at 2020 10:39 PM 2020-09-20T22:39:25-04:00 2020-09-20T22:39:25-04:00 SSG Angela Koch 6346168

I was somewhat in your boat in regards to going on the trail (2 yrs) and getting out. I was up for reenlistment and a persgram message kinda showed up. I retired after 20 yrs, and happy that I decided to stick it out. I was in from 90-2011, and was on the trail from 02-05 (3 yrs) normally 2! When Covid hit a lot of people were out of jobs, yet I didn't have to worry as I had a check coming in. I would suggest that you sit down with wife/family if you have them and do a pro/con list then look into the other training you are looking into getting and what the requirements are and it you are qualified for MOS's. Depending on what your interests is you could look at getting job like Marshalls, Customes & Border Patrol, and so many other career choices. If you haven't found anything then stay in. Hope everything works out for you, in or out it is up to you. I lived at The Keswick. It's out there a bit but I avoided all the traffic on the highway. Close enough to base for a 20 minute commute, and far enough away to have everything you could want for economy and entertainment close to home.
