Going to go active and considering both of these mos. I understand they are both very different and I qualify for both. I’m just not sure how I want my life style to be as far as my career goes. If 17C or 89D could give me some insight on what daily job activities are after mos training. Frequent deployments? Always working? In the field a lot? Just as an outsider I'd say 17C has a better career track in and once out -

Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
National Security Agency (NSA)
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
Northrop Grumman Corporation
Lockheed Martin Corporation

However the 89D might offer an up front bonus - I'd check here - https://www.goarmy.com/home/jobs-in-demand.html#gajob-12N

PAGE NOT FOUND

SPC David S. Secret Service/State Department TDYs take more time out of the year. We train and PT 3-5 days a week to be able to do any task at any time and in an 80 pound bomb suit or chem gear. Strength and stamina are important as well as ordnance and IED knowledge.

If you don't like long hours and hard work skip EOD. We need a special breed of cat and most folks won't even make it through the school and follow-on training anyway. It's a calling that demands dedication and sacrifice. Find a unit close to you and ask for a tour. They'll give you the straight story and can give you an idea if it's for you. TSgt David L. There's also likely an EOD unit and recruiter on the closest major base you can talk with.

I'll start with this:
17C: In demand IT certs, CEH, CCNA, and more which make you competitive post-military

89D: Big on comradery within units, small tight community, must be able to handle activities in a heavy bomb suit, will need good foundation of CBRNE, mechanices, and electronics starting in the months-long AIT; CEXC and other bomb squad opportunities post-military.
