The most important deciding factor is that I'm trying to deploy, but of course I don't want to end up in a shitty unit with poor leadership. I'm leaning toward Campbell or Bragg, but I've heard mixed reviews of both. What are your thoughts? What are some of the best duty stations in the Army for 11B? 2018-11-23T07:08:25-05:00 CPL Private RallyPoint Member 4150842

I'm currently at my first duty station and looking for my next one. I will do my best to help you. I am not infantry, but I have work with them. If you want your best chances to deploy you need to go to Germany, Fort Bragg, NC , Fort Drum, NY, Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Hood , TX and Schofield Barracks, HI. You are infantry so you will be stationed at the Infrantry Division. Now, as for the leadership you can't judge unit bases on their location. The reason is that leadership come in go at duty station. The person that said that place had toxic leadership there while there was there , then that leadership is more than likely wont be there anymore. You should keep in mind that people PCS all the time on the military no matter what rank you are. So, when you go to one of these places you may have great leadership while there. I hope this help and best of luck to you in your career. What I consider the BESTEST OF THE BEST, you may die of boredom or worse. What I think is the biggest shit-hole in the world may be where you fall in love with the Army and want to retire some day.

My biggest piece of advice is to get as far away from your hometown as possible. If you are from Down South (i.e. South of I-10), choose Alaska or Korea or anywhere in Europe. If you are from the Land of Ice and Snow (i.e. North of I-80), choose something like Hood or anywhere down South. Get the hell overseas and see the world!

You are young - see the world before you feel it's necessary to settle down! Fort Lewis WA and anywhere in Alaska are great if you like the outdoors and hunting or fishing. You want to deploy? Go to Fort Bragg, NC, "Home of the Airborne and Special Operations". That will require a stop at Fort Benning to get Airborne qualified. And finally, Vicenza IT, home of the 173rd Airborne Bde, is a very nice place, and they deploy a good bit. Vicenza is close to some great tourist spots like Venice, Milan, and Pisa. Also, from Milan you can jump on the Trans-European Express and be in Germany in a couple of hours. Travel and make friends as much as possible. Everyone I meet has different opinions on all of the posts. I for one love Campbell because of what I am able to do off post and have just been lucky to have an outstanding chain of command and great guys in my platoon. However, if you want a great all around post to be stationed, a high chance of deployment, and don't mind the snow, go to Carson. I have yet to hear any ill will towards the post and having "lived" in Denver/Co Springs it's beautiful and will never leave you bored. Campbell. It turns out that if I picked up airborne en route, there was no guarantee of duty station afterward. I could have spoken to HRC to try to get orders to Bragg after airborne school, but again, there were no guarantees. I was also very interested in Ft. Carson, but it just seemed more likely to get deployed from Campbell. Thank you all for your input, it was all very helpful.
