Careers in Information Technology are plentiful for veterans with military MOS's that are IT centric. I averaged mid to low six figure annual incomes for 31 years after my years of experience as a 24K20.

Elizabeth Malkin I am sure salary surveys have been done, but Defense contracting and IT has to be a top area. The other recommendation is for RP to sponsor an survey that anonymizes the salary data and ties to the industry or years of experience. Most people don't want/like to give up salary information.

It is very rare to walk into an IT Management position coming straight out of the military, even if you do have the education and experience.

Manufacturing jobs pay well and have great benefits. Industry averages are the same or above the jobs listed. Supervisors and Engineers are needed.

Having a degree really helps veterans entering the workforce. Most enlisted folks do not have a degree when they leave the service and too many never use the education benefits they earned. I used my education benefits to earn a degree in the sciences and now I work in the energy industry. Even though the indudustry is currently experiencing a downturn, the available jobs pay generously and usually have good benefits. An added bonus is that folks in this industry generally appreciate all who served, making it a very vet-friendly environment. My starting salary was higher than all those listed in the article.
