I don't know about motivate, but the following have guided me.

John 3:16-17

Everybody has a purpose in life; for some it's being a bad example. (Coe's corollary to Murphy's Law)

First reports are seldom accurate. (said by many great leaders including Colon Powell)

If you completed the work, then you have a process; even if it's a poor process.

Nobody survives a ground accident. (well known fact among Air Force pilots that damaging an aircraft while it's on the ground can be a career ending event)

Useless things: fuel in the storage tank, runway behind you, altitude above you. (another Air Force pilot maximum)

As an instructor pilot, the student pilot stops learning when you start.

Remember today's competitor may be tomorrow's subcontractor. (explained to me early in my private sector career)
