But, if you want the full experience as much as possible, then I highly recommend you travel as much as you can when you are not on duty. So many countries within just a few hours drive or train ride. If you hear about the GAFB and/or Schützenschnur being offered....TAKE IT. Compared to the U.S. Europe is small and it’s very easy to see many countries. Chances are that you will never go back on your own. Take advantage of the time you have. <br /><br />Immerse yourself in your surroundings and German culture. There is a ton of history there. Learn the language. Although most Germans speak English, you will be treated much better if you make an effort to speak their language. <br /><br />Have a great time. In the Navy we never really had too much time on liberty, but meeting all different types of people around the world was the best experience. Try a lot of food! Go to a bakery. Travel a lot. Go see Würzburg, Nürnberg, Heidelberg especially around Christmas time they have the best Christmas markets ever. Try Glühwein with a shot of amaretto. Go skiing in Austria. Road trip down to Livorno Italy, hop on a ferry and go see Korsika. Born and raised in Germany those are the things I miss the most. You are in Europe. You have a great opportunity to see it. Eat as much of the european food as you can fit in your stomach. Don&#39;t mess with the turks. Don&#39;t visit amsterdam for the drugs. There are dozens of medieval castles to visit and lots of shopping; not alluding to window shopping in Amsterdam. Find a good local pub and set down some roots. While I was never stationed there I was stationed in Italy. While assigned I did traveled quite a bit. Take plenty of pictures because your time there will fly by. I never experienced the infamous Oktoberfest but I heard its awesome. Overall, have a great career Sir! Travel, Travel, Travel. I was stationed there for 10 yrs and visited 29 European countries. Learn at least little a little bit of German, its the least you can do. If you try to speak German it will be appreciated.
