Steady Federal job, health and retirement benefits. Paid leave plus sick leave. Also possible training opportunities that could enhance your military. I started as a Wage Grade then became General Schedule (GS). Retired 32 years as Technician.

I retired as a CW4 and got thirty days a year. Cashed in 60 when I retired. GS 12 18 years. matching 401K. I had 200K in the bank when I retired. Tricare for Life. Military discounts once in the US. Space-A flights anywhere in the world.

The technician program is probably one of the best kept secrets in the Army. You'll generally make as much as, if not more than, your civilian counterparts doing the same jobs in your area. I know where I live I'd be hard pressed to find a job that pays me what I make with the benefits that I get without at least 4-6 years of college and/or a professional licensure. You can "buy back" your active duty time to push your start date back and bring your retirement date closer. It's a great gig.

It stands for Wage Grade, it’s a class of federal employees that are generally skilled labor, think mechanics and maintenance clerks. The best I know, the positions are all tied to National Guard and Reserves. GS (General Schedule), you have to take an exam, goes by points, WG doesn’t. But, as WG, being s Member in good standing in the National Guard or Reserves is required to keep your employment.
I’m a retired WG10 that worked as mechanic and inspector. It is a great gig. But be aware that generally, you’re going to be in the service until mandatory retirement age for the military.
