Sadly, it didn't sell books, not to the degree to which I aspired. I documented my successes and failures on my weblog. Years ago while I was working in Egypt I connected with a gentleman from Anchorage through LinkedIn. While on leave in Alaska (where my family was at) I had coffee with him. Great conversations. About a year later I joined Toastmasters thanks to him, in his club. Toastmasters led me to a job lead which I did not get, but it helped me get the job I have today. It all started with a LinkedIn request. I have a Facebook because I live 800 miles away from my family, so this allows me to share pictures of my daughters growing up online. I have a LinkedIn account for professional purposes since your profile is basically one big resume. Then I have a rallypoint account because I enjoy the military and being able to speak with military minds from all walks of life gives me a reprieve from the drama of the civilian sector. While RallyPoint is an excellent platform it is primarily focused on like minded individuals with some connection to the military. As many questions posted to RP show, there is an overall lack of understanding within the military about what life in the civilian world is like, especially when coming up on separation. Decide what other Social Media platform(s) best meet your overall interests and goals and start using. Facebook for me is mainly just to keep up with family/friends/former classmates and coworkers that are distant now but I still want to know how they're doing and what they're up to. I have a Twitter account that I used mainly to keep up with groups and celebrities, I don't really look at it much anymore though. I am also active on Imgur and Reddit to a small extent just for fun. It just depends on the website and what it has to offer. I know there's others such as Pintrest and Instagram but I never really got into those ones.
