If you want to see an example of true leadership, watch Star Trek Pickard; particularly the first season. Patrick Stewart portrays an exemplary leader.

Another good example is Christopher Pike in Strange New Worlds (also, previously Discovery), played by Anson Mount. There's an excellent leader.

Another example is Jack O'Neal, played by Harry Dean Anderson, in Stargate SG-1.

I would also credit Col (Dr.) Sherman Potter, played by Harrey Morgan (formerly on Dragnet, playing Detective Bill Gannon).

There are quite a few. Some of the more important, in my opinion, are as follows:
1. Be honest at all times.
2. Never say something needs to be done because so and so said so.
3. Never ask your people to do anything you wouldn't do yourself.
4. Nobody else gets to give your soldiers a hard way to go. If a peer or a higher has a problem with one of your people, they talk to you unless it's an on the spot correction.
5. Be there for your people, even if they just need to vent or bitch about something.
6. Treat all with respect and dignity, even when you're jumping in that ass knee deep.
7. Always let your people know where they stand. If there's a problem, don't jump right to the harshest measures to correct it.
8. When punishment becomes necessary, make damn sure the punishment fits the crime. Be creative, don't try to flex, and don't ever belittle or humiliate. That's called toxic leadership.
9. Never forget that your people watch everything you say and do. If you say it, make it happen.
10. Never forget that you, too, are someone's follower, not just others leader.
11. Be humble. Don't act like you know everything. Listen to your people, they've probably come up with methods and solutions that you haven't.
12. Cut them some slack when you're in garrison. No slack when the bullets are flying.
The above are one man's opinions. I've tried very hard to follow these as a leader. Remember, take care of your people, they'll take care of you, and the mission will take care of itself.

Traits of being a good leader, are being accountable to yourself and to your team. Being self reflective, and redirecting yourself or your team when you realize you made a mistake or its time to pivot.
Everyone deserves dignity, avoid bullying or demean others publicly, even when a correction is warranted. Calculate and time it out. Encourage the continued morale of your team.

A lot of the answers so far indicate character traits that I can't possible argue with. However, I'd like to add some skills that an authentic leader often possesses:

1. An authentic leader can quickly identify and muster an individuals unique talents toward the end goal.
2. An authentic leader knows what responsibilities to delegate and which must stay theirs to decide (Mission vs personnel, for example).
3. An authentic leader knows that trust is reciprocal between them and their team. They will never trust you if you do not demonstrate your trust of them and their abilities.
4. An authentic leader knows when to give people space to fail and how to use that failure to build them up.

An authentic leader is also a transformational leader. Someone who is not telling others what to do, but showing by example. If one were to leave a job or organization, what did they leave behind? If they were a good leader, they would have set an example for the organization to run smoothly. A good leader provides good ideas, beneficial for the greater good.

The best traits for an authentic leader would have to be patience because being a leader will test it constantly and if you haven't disciplined your mind then your decision making and problem solving abilities will be compromised. Next thing a leader needs is empathy because a cold, ruthless leader will eventually become the enemy of those he is supposed to lead. Finally, an effective leader should be someone who is self-aware. Someone capable of recognizing their own weaknesses, someone who can push aside their ego and admit when they're wrong, and somebody who knows the evil things of which they are capable of, yet harnesses that energy and uses it in appropriate situations to protect himself, his team and his country, sometimes using deadly force without hesitation.

Leaders need one thing...followers. So, the real question is why anyone should follow us. For me it's the 3Ps. Leaders protect those in their charge, leaders provide for those in their charge and when those in their charge stumble and fall (we all do because we are human) leaders pick them up, dust them off and encourage them to try again, but this time let's do it together. I have used the 3P method over my 22yrs in the military. It is simply amazing the type of culture you can create if you protect, provide and pick-up.

I believe that servant leaders exemplify the best traits of an authentic leader. Servant leaders do not seek power or authority over others but instead strive to be of service to them. The servant leader prioritizes the needs of those individuals under their charge above all else including above the needs of any company or organization. The servant leader also commits themselves to the development and success of their charges. The servant leader takes responsibility when their team encounters a failure and gives them their credit when successful. The servant leader understands that their success depends on the success of every individual under them and takes care to invest the time, energy, and resources necessary for each individual to achieve whatever level of success they desire.

Servant Leadership Style - Taking care of your people to be successful to include properly equipping them to accomplish the mission. This also includes a measure of progressive discipline such as verbal reprimands, written corrective action plans and training. The success and development of a subordinates heavily weighs on the first-line supervisor. The thought of Servant Leadership should be in that the preparation of a subordinate to replace the supervisor.

Discernment - It's important to understand other's point of views, utilize empathic listening, and apply the communication needed to accomplish the mission. More can be accomplished using sugar then vinegar. Especially with newer generations where their thought is more of 'what can be done for them rather than what be done for their organization or mission tasked.

Humility - This is where most leaders may fall short. It's understandably tough to set aside personal leadership beliefs and trust others in 'taking the reins.' Leaders can absolutely grow subordinates by mentoring them and letting subordinates fail at times but getting them back up. Growth usually comes from failures and not as much from successes. Positive reinforcement, and when needed, negative reinforcement mentorships support that leader's humility and the development of subordinates.

Situational Leadership/Critical thinking - Obviously the situation dictates courses of actions. Leaders need to be dynamic to what's evolving, forecast worst case scenarios, and adjust accordingly. Critical management/leadership are absolutely essential in authoritarian style leadership. There is no time to be touch-feely in consideration to subordinates when rapid action is necessary to critical situations.

In summary, it is my opinion that Servant Leadership, discernment, humility, and Situational Leadership/critical thinking are the best traits in an authentic leader. In application of these traits, I believe subordinates will feel a sense of respect, understand the mission, and realize their roles in accomplishing a mission. To mitigate overthinking the best traits a leader should consider if not possessed already. Ive opted to focus my attention on a “Top 3 Approach” for which each leader has embodied throughout my career. Firstly would have to be the most utilized characteristic as nearly every interaction between leadership and their subordinates most likely would entail some degree of relating with specific aspects of one’s life whether it’s a persons hometown or the school both parties would have attended previously. Being able to communicate efficiently with those that work under you is arguably the next best attribute for a leader to have at their disposal. This means after the instructions are distributed top to bottom those in charge do not have to repeat their instructions on a consistent basis. This is quite possibly the most common way for people to stand out amongst their peers while also being the most common type of failure amongst a group or team. The final skillset Ive chosen to include outlining great leadership is consistency. To conclude, the top three attributes a great leader typically exhibits are empathy, communication and consistency which if combined can provide the leader and their team some additional strength as they navigate the challenges ahead.

The best examples of leadership to me would lead by example, you would never catch them sitting around doing nothing while they have joes working, youll find them right there with their soldiers showing them what work ethic is, and how they exppect the work to be performed, Whether the task is fun or an absolutely horrible task.
There are many traits that make a great leader, but this traits always been one I have always revered as important when defining a leader.

1. Credible. By definition, authentic means "entitled to acceptance or belief, as being in accordance with fact.
2. Protective. Accomplishment brings greater visibility, and visibility brings "attacks" from others (sometimes even the enemy).
3. Listen, and Do Not Jump to Conclusions. When my company SFC told me, a PFC, to go to Supply and inventory my issued equipment, I said, "I cannot." Eventually the Major came to me and asked me the same, and I replied, "I cannot." This was an authentic leader because he inquired, "Why not?" I responded that the issued equipment I had placed into Supply had been stolen and replaced with someone else's equipment.

I experienced through life that leadership is a learned talent. The leader must always be honest and fair when dealing with subordinates and superiors alike. Being a leader does not mean being everyone's friend. However, it does mean that you must be recognized as being concerned for each of your subordinates health, welfare and future.

A leader leads by example. How you do your job shows your crew what is expected from them too.

Encourage innovative thinking from your subordinates and always keep an open mind to their ideas.

Give positive feedback publicly and privately. Reprimand individuals privately but don't hesitate to give general reprimands to the group when they don't follow the rules or meet expectations.

Don't hold grudges. Once a reprimand is given - the incident is history and needs to be forgotten. (That is unless the same incident is repeated again by the same person).

If you keep your door open to your people they will provide you with their ideas, concerns and yes, their gripes too.

Finally, don't give answers if the question requires further investigation and/or advice from your superiors or other experts. Tell the person with the question that you will get back to them in a timely manner. THEN MAKE SURE YOU DO IT!!!

Servant Leadership principles. Generally, care about your staff; make them feel like they matter because they do. Always lead off with "How can I help you succeed today?". That question tells them you are willing to roll your sleeves up and help them no matter the task. Ask them about their career aspirations and help them achieve their goals, even if it means them leaving your organization to better themselves or advance their career. Have integrity, be ethical, and be fair. Praise in public and reprimand in private. Do not overreact to failure. Help them embrace the failure, own their decision, and help them move past the failure as they learn from it. Help them to grow where they are planted and empower them to grow others; everyone is a leader no matter what level they are currently in. Lead by example and make sure you are a man/woman of your word.

Humility, self-awareness, and patience - these are the traits that every authentic leader I've encountered have shared. Having the humility to admit that you don't have all the answers or that you make mistakes, being truly aware of your strengths and weaknesses, and having patience with senior leaders, your peers and direct reports can help you be a leader as opposed to a boss.

There are soo many traits we can go days upon days answering this but from what I have gathered over the years is to do your best to relate. Be Honest. Admit when you're wrong. Get in the trenches with your people. Sweat it and work with them. Show compassion always help when you can. Reward your people. Either in big ways or cups of coffee and donuts. The traits would include being trustworthy, patient, accessible, focused, knowledgeable, respectful and a creative troubleshooter. These are the things I've noticed in myself as people gravitate towards me when they want someone to lead. I've been told many times I'm a natural leader, even though I've always been fine just watching from the sidelines, and it's only in recent years that I've actually understood why.

1) Honesty: How can troops effectively follow you if they can't trust your word.
2) Composure: It never works when you can't keep a level head and remain calm under pressure of when upset.
3) Motivation: Keep a positive attitude and encourage your troops to work hard not due to order, but in order to improve the situation for everyone to include themselves.
4) Forsight: Plan ahead, look at the possible angles and avenues of approach to situations. Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
5) Proactive: Keep yourself busy while on duty, even when it looks like you can take it easy and do nothing. There is always something to improve or correct.
6) Knowledge: If you don't know ask: You can't know everything and different people have different skill sets.
7) Ability to take criticism and suggestions: If you can't listen to what those with experience or a different point of view have to say, then you will never really improve yourself as a leader.
8) Respect: Its a two way street and if you want respect then you need to earn it.
9) Never let someone else screw with "your" troops. If they outrank you and you feel they are in the wrong, seek higher in your chain of command.
10) Punishments and correctional discipline should be designed to establish order and good operational habits as well as fix any issues, not for the leader to flex his position and make the troops feel like they have no place and are just being cast off as fodder.
11) If you're not willing to do it yourself, don't expect your troop to do it. Leaders need to get in on the work and get dirty as well. Don't think that your position makes certain tasks beneath you. If you need to chip in to get it done, do it. Lead by example. Sometimes you need to show them the ropes.

Remember, A good leader can get his troops to carry out the mission and orders not because they have to do it, but because they want to do it. A good leader will find the motivation they need without forcing it on them.

I have knows some really good leaders and some that I wouldn't give the time of day to. Example: Had a motorpool gunney on one PTA op who treated his drivers like second class citizens and his "correctional training" for them was for them to build 6' monuments of respect to him out of small rocks. Tried to make me load a pile of full garbage bags into the back of the Cooks Mess Humvee, we were using the Tray Ration Heater System. He didn't want to use the 5 Ton cause that was our supply storage that he also used as his mobile bedroom. Told him flat out no, E4 to E7. I was not one of his Marines, it was a violation of regulations (MARINE CORPS ORDER 10110.14M, DoDD 6400.04E and TB MED 530/NAVMED P-5010-1/AFMAN48-147_IP), and I had to sleep in the back of the vehical as well. Trash was not going back there. He took it to my E7 who took my side, stated all the regulations and made sure I was left to do the job that I had been trusted with. Added other stipulations to ensure compliance. Had mad respect for my Gunney who was later promoted to Master Gunnery.

Honesty, integrity, and respect for others. In addition, I believe an authentic leader listens to those around him/her and gathers input to make the best decisions possible. An authentic leader also has excellent communication skills and is able to work with those above him/her in the chain of command, with his/her peers, and with his/her subordinates.

The best traits in an authentic leader is someone who is willing to serve others first. You cannot be a good leader if you haven't served others or put others before yourself. Another trait needed to be an authentic leader is understanding and knowing who is on your team. Fully knowing the people who are on your team will help in knowing what task to assign to who on your team. You have to be someone who can build others up and be a team player. I believe a good leader is someone who knows the “job” inside out. They are able and willing to jump in where needed to train others or to perform duties when needed. I’d like to address the topic of the best traits in an authentic leader as this:

- A True Leaders willingness to share their greatness in a way that allows their team to become so strong and essentially handle anything that comes their way!! Leadership is not about holding “control” close to the best, but sharing, mentoring and molding your teams into the best that they can be. If an entire team eventually transitions into successful leadership roles, that’s a hot sign that they had the best mentor they could have asked for!!

This would be someone who shows strong leadership in the way they carry them selves and the way they talk with the staff, handle issues large and small with a satisfying result in the end.

.This person should not be afraid to get their hands dirty, staff tend to respect a boss that gets down in the trenches and actually helps in a pinch.

A strong leader delegates jobs and or tasks to their subordinate, but before they can delegate they need to know their subordinates jobs and skill set. This is the only way they can match that particular task to the right person. Another way to know you have a strong leader is the productivity of that area has improved, job satisfaction is up, job retention is at a high. This list can go on n on.

There is so much more to being a strong leader, this is just the tip of the iceberg

1. Dependability Those under and above a good leader should see they are dependable.

A authentic leader should have a level of compassion, understanding and honesty. A soldier will give little to no respect to a leader who does nothing but toss their rank around. Soldiers can relate to a leader who treats their troops with respect and as adults as opposed to a leader who treats them like a bunch of kids. A leader who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and leads by example. A leader should never ask their troops to do something they wouldn’t do themselves. Communication is big in the military leadership or lack there of, some leadership will not relay information correctly and when the soldiers get it wrong will then turn it around on their soldier. A true leader will take responsibility for failures caused by miscommunication. These are traits that make a leader a great leader!

The authentic leader is one who those who follow do not ever question their authenticity. That seems like a simple answer, but the truth is; when someone who is truly authentic presents themself as a leader, and those who respond always feel compelled to listen and follow their example; because there is a "feeling" or intuition that the person speaks both from the heart, and with a strong conviction from experience.

While some may try to deny it, we all possess an innate sense or ability to see through anyone who is inauthentic. Some just decide to ignore this ability and follow those who say what they want to hear because it is the easy path of least resistance.

But: the authentic leader speaks truth from the heart and because they follow their own passion and beliefs, others see that truth and are comfortable letting this person provide the leadership they desire.

The authentic leader never provides direction that is based on self-interest or personal gratification. They lead from a position of community and know that the decisions they make will positively impact the community, not any one individual. They work from a desire to know and promote what is best for the group they lead and not any one person or themselves. They have a very personal understanding of the responsibly that comes with being a leader and they take that responsibility to heart, personally. Nothing they do focuses on themselves but always what is best for the community they lead. Every time.

Anyone who follow an authentic leader feels comfortable and connect to their guide. They lack anxiety in the decision and have faith that the outcome is always the best for the long-term survival of the community and not the individual.

I believe that the best traits that an authentic leader can posess would be Faith- in the training they are providing, the belief that the UCMJ is their ethos, one that sees no color or gender only one that sees family that they have to train or maintain readiness to defend their home. One that wouldn't damnd a trainee or subordinate do what they would not do, or have not done. One that has empathy for their subordinates yet none for the enemy. . One that will do the job beside you if it is needed. One that never says "not my job". One that would get all of their subordinates as much education and as many certifications as possible. And one that never thinks they know it all. One who understands and can see warning signs for a decline in their subordinates mental health. One that fills a need within the unit by first attempting to match that need to their subordinates strengths or when they can, their goals. One that would be a fair advocate for their subordinates advancement and placement. One that has a strong moral character and demands all of their subordinates follow suit.

The best traits in an authentic leader are compassion, accountability, and initiative. Compassion is one of the more underrated traits, yet to me is the most important one. You need to respect those under you and have compassion for how you treat and lead those around you, everyone has memories of their favorite leaders and every single one has some level of compassion regardless of how tough or ruthless they may seem. Accountability is extremely important, not just for us as leaders but when we were learning as followers. You need to be accountable for your actions, your gear, and those around you as that is what will separate good leaders and great leaders. Initiative is one thing an authentic leader must have, if all you do is things that are pre-planned with no input or ideas, it makes you a follower despite the position you are in. Initiative doesn’t have to mean straying from what is expected, but rather checking on those around you because they are equally important as you, to assist someone who needs help with something, to suggest ideas to make something that is good even better. Without initiative we would never change, and change is needed to make things better.

The best traits in an authentic leader are ever evolving. A leader must know that the team they are given does not come with the list of recommended requirements. An authentic leader is a chameleon that knows when to change their style. Being a leader comes down to knowing 3 things:
What the mission is.
Who your people are.
And both concepts are never guaranteed.
Understanding that failure is an option it is just not the preferred outcome. Perfection comes with patience and some team members need the carrot and some need the stick. Finding that balance and striving to make sure you can influence the sway of the environment will always be key traits to being a leader.

Humble yourself by being willing to learn from your group and by admitting if you don't know everything. Don't act superior but act as a part of the team by facilitating at times instead of always being "bossy." Listen to your folks because they are the ones doing the work. Hear their suggestions, feedback, and concerns. Lead the group by rolling up your sleeves and getting at their level at times. A true leader recognizes his or her need to be led. They do not reach a place in their life where they think they have all the right answers or can offer all the right answers or support. Leadership is not demanding something out of someone else, it is working closely with them and treating them with dignity and respect.

A real leader is someone who is vulnerable with people. They are open and honest with the people who can help them and also people that they lead.

Leadership implies that people are going somewhere, as there as a destination to get to. A great leader knows the direction to go, or else it would be the blind leading the blind.
Not only pertained to the mission, but in life as well.

A true leader recognizes the needs of the people they are leading. Emotional needs, physical needs, spiritual needs, relational needs, financial needs....every part of their lives.

They are interested in the overall well being of a human. They add value to people. They offer support in any way they possibly can. A true leader is not concerned with the title before his name. They are more concerned with being led and being a leader to others.

True leaders seek to learn and do not think that their answers are always right. They listen and seek to understand. They are always there for their people, not assuming that one answer is the right answer all the time, as needs and situations are all unique, so are the solutions.

Leaders never stop leading.

1) You lead from the front not the rear.
When you take a length of rope and push it down the road then is when you can lead from behind.
2) Do unto others as you would do unto others
3) Demonstrate what and how you want some thing. By Demonstrating you're showing what you want is not impossible by showing you are demonstrating how you want it done.
4) By screaming and shouting you just make people nervous. I figured that is why they do it to you in boot camp and then they could scream some more.
5) Never let them see you sweat. If your unit sees that you are nervous it gives them a reason to be nervous.
6) Give praise for doing a good job. Remember even a your dog like a pat on the head sometimes good.

I liken an authentic leader to be identical to an authentic follower of Christ. I say this because serving the Lord is very much like serving in our military. There are some in both "Core Values" that guide the life of a service member (military and Christian) 24/7, there are high expectations (including death), there is a end game (retirement/eternity), each person has a specialty to help fulfill the mission (MOS/rating/spiritual gift) and there is a common mission to be carried out. Everyone is placed in a leadership role at some point in their career/spiritual walk and everyone needs to be concerned with taking on positive leader attributes and being the best leader possible at all times. Here is a list of some of those attributes (not all inclusive):
1. Humble (able to lead and be led)
2. Honest (even when it is going to be an admittance of wrong doing)
3. Courageous (nor fearless, but able to stand firm in times of danger)
4. Encourager (team builder)
5. Mission focused (mission first, people always)
6. Effective communicator
7. Knows a little something about most things dealing with the entire force, but a subject matter expert at their specialty (team, platform, airframe, unit, etc...)
8. A man or woman with integrity at all times
9. Willing to work themselves out of a job (mentoring and teaching future leaders)

I believe the best traits in an authentic leader are demonstrated by my young daughter. She is bright, positive, hopeful and completely dedicated in everything she does.
She is faith based and uses Jesus as her example. She uses what she Gods word, the Bible as her basis for what she demonstrates in her leadership.
She is unafraid to take on anything and ready to be a part of helping people wherever her feet land. In essence, she implements her faith as her foundation while following the greatest leader we know.
I could use many adjectives to describe her attributes as a leader however I believe it all starts with an individuals foundation, and her foundation is strong. Her foundation is a rock and therefore her growing leadership skills exemplify a dynamic leader.

After 23 years in the Army I have experienced all styles of leadership both good and bad.

What I believe to be Best straits of a leader begins with compassion. I always tried to put myself in my subordinates position. How would I want to be spoken to, treated, or heard. People want to be treated with respect and made to feel that they are important and be acknowledged for their participation.

I also feel a trait that is important is to be loyal to those you’re in charge of. They deserve a leader who will have their back and go up to bat for them, help them succeed, and places their needs above your own.

In the military there is a time and place for “one way” conversations and orders depending on the situation and environment . And during those times a confident, knowledgeable, and decisive leader is needed to get missions accomplished. However if you have built that reputation of being a caring leader I found that when it’s time for the hard decisions and missions to be done, your subordinates are more than willing to step up and do what is required

The best traits of an authentic leader from my perspective are Honesty and Humility.
If you are honest with your troops and I mean really honest so that they understand why they are doing what they are doing and not just "well the CSM wants it this way" or "the CO said so" goes a long way in building trust which I believe is the corner stone of being an authentic leader.
The other most important facet is humility. Never act like you are too good to do something.
I recently went to Annual Training with a new unit I was assigned to. The Command team sat in the air conditioned range control office while the troops were out setting up all the tents we were to sleep in while we were there.
I went out (as a Chief Medical NCO rank MSG) and helped lift the poles, drive the stakes, and help direct the folks as we worked.
By the end of that day the entire unit would have walked through fire for me if I asked them to, simply because even though I'm a leader that is high up the chain I came and helped out for the common good of us all.

Over a 20-year career in the Marine Corps, I learned the traits that make an excellent leader are subjective. Sure, the Marine Corps offers "Leadership" schools: Corporals' Course, Sergeants' Course, Career Course and Advance Course, however, applying the lessons learned in these schools does not always result in subordinates, peers, and seniors buying into your leadership style. Although I could list genetic traits like, committed, forward-thinker, humble, approachable, direct, etc., these traits are subjective. Most people would agree the above traits are essential in an excellent leader, but I would argue the following: If the individuals who are being "led" do not place value on those traits, then than leader is not an excellent leader. Some individuals place more value on a leader that is friends with them...Some individuals place more value on a leader that is easy-going, "yes man", a leader that caters to them. Furthermore, I argue these leaders exists in the military and unfortunately, these leaders are not there to guide the institution in the right direction, they are there to be liked. Just my opinion.

After self evaluation and reflection on my past regarding on great leaders that I have encountered and the not so great ones, I can say that the most important trait in an authentic leader would be trust. As I dictate my thoughts about this question, I will be sharing my thoughts from the standpoint of a student. If there is no trust in your leader/student relationship, there will be very little professional development. Once there is trust with your leader, the student starts to understand and observe the choices and decisions that are made and directly impact their life. As a student, I learned early in my years that if I practice staying quiet, I tend to hear things that are important and learn things quicker than most people by simply observing the normal proper operation of things according to policies and procedures that have been put in place much before my time. With that being said, I believe any great leader will exhibit traits of being a greater follower. With being a greater follower, you are able to receive knowledge that allows you to share with others that may receive, learn and implement things at a slower speed. I would say that this is a great trait to have and exercise every day to help others along the way and make their lives simpler and more enjoyable. I believe that love for others, understanding, compassion, humbleness and desire to serve others will be the heart of all great leaders and flows from their being upon their students. A great leader will always put the needs of others before their own and never have their integrity questioned as they will always claim and acknowledge their mistakes to learn and make better decisions. The list could go on and on and I am sure that some traits are more important to others for certain reasons. As for me, these traits I have spoken about are the most important traits to me for a great authentic leader.

I believe there are several necessary traits that make a great leader. An authentic leader must:
1. Have a vision.
2. Set clear goals for his or her team(s).
3. Be able to receive constructive criticism, as well as give it.
4. Be consistent in his or her demeanor with is subordinates.
5. Communicate transparently with his or her subordinates.
6. Lead by example.

As a MSGT in the Air Force I have learned and followed these 10 steps as the shop lead and supervisor. This is what I think an authentic leader should possess as well as a range of traits that help them connect with their team, build trust, and inspire them to achieve great things.

• Self-awareness: Authentic leaders are aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
• Transparency: They are open and honest with their team members.
• Empathy: Authentic leaders are able to put themselves in their team's shoes and understand their needs and concerns.
• Integrity: They have a strong moral compass and always do what is right.
• Humility: They don't let their position or status go to their head and are willing to admit their mistakes and learn from them.
• Vision: They have a clear and compelling vision for the future and are able to inspire and motivate their team to work towards it.
• Courage: They are willing to take risks and make difficult decisions, even in the face of opposition or adversity.
• Accountability: Authentic leaders hold themselves accountable for their actions and decisions.
• Authenticity: They are genuine and true to themselves, and they don't try to be someone they're not.
• Listening skills: They actively listen to their team members' feedback and ideas and use this information to improve their leadership and decision-making.

Considerateness. The more a leader considers, the more authentic they are. This trait more than any other will endear them to those that they lead as well as follow. It will inspire all other great traits like for example: integrity and confidence, because they will see the full picture and know what is right. It will motivate that leader to be better as they have to consider things that don't effect them but does effect those they serve.

What are the best traits of an authentic leader?
1) In order to command others you have to be able to follow orders yourself.
2) In order to command others you should know what each and every position covered under your umbrella you should have working knowledge of. This would allow you to assist other individuals in the correct way to perform the task.
3) You have to be detail oriented so that the task is performed right the first time to eliminate extra cost.
4) Demonstrate a modicum of respect and understanding for those who are performing the tasks for you. People tend to respond and perform better when they feel that they are appreciated.

1. Ability-I need to trust this person knows what they are talking about, and not just pulling stuff out of the air.
2. Trustworthy

I believe the best traits in an authentic leader are demonstrated by my young daughter. She is bright, positive, hopeful and completely dedicated to everything she does.
She is faith based and uses Jesus as her example. She uses God's word, the Bible, as her basis for what she demonstrates in her leadership.

She is unafraid to take on anything and ready to be a part of helping people wherever her feet land. She doesn't expect people to do anything she wouldn't do. In essence, she implements her faith as her foundation while following the greatest leader we know.

I could use many adjectives to describe her attributes as a leader however I believe it all starts with an individual's foundation, and her foundation is strong. She is a committed American and willing to do anything for our country. As a side note, Dai Dai was born and raised to age 5 in Communist China. Her foundation is a rock and therefore her growing leadership skills exemplify a dynamic leader.

7. Listen to your personal, be open-minded to different ideas and be willing to make changes that will better operations.
8. Be equitable, fair & just concerning awards, counseling, evaluations, discipline, etc…
9. Keep it professional and not personal; when personal feelings come into play problems persist. Follow the rules, regulations, policies & procedures!
10. Check your attitude & ego at the door; they create unwanted energy and a negative working environment. Don’t have a do what I say do mentality. Good leadership doesn’t have to demand respect as respect will be given because it was earned!

AUTHENTIC LEADERS - Traits!!!
They are usually charismatic and can get buy in from those they lead. They have mastered multiple leadership styles so they can lead a diverse groups as everyone is led differently. They are fair when it comes to praise and discipline, both should be used diversely. They lead by example, do things correctly and follow policy/procedures. They provide boundaries so employees/team members know where they stand at all time. They are transparent, this allows for trust. They are willing to do anything they ask of others you should never ask someone to do something you feel you wouldn't do or you know is unsafe or outside regulations. They are knowledgeable in their subject matter, preferably the subject matter expert. They are out of the box thinkers that can see the big picture, a great leader sees the issues and recognizes how the issue affects other things and institutes a solution that not just fixes the issues but resolves further issues that can come from the resolution. if you can't see beyond right in front of you, are you truly leading? Be respectful and handle things with dignity. Disseminate work equally and hold them accountable for their responsibilities. Delegate work and provide opportunities for growth.

These are just a few traits that I think make an authentic leader.
