I'm planning on doing Army ROTC and possibly joining the Army Reserves as well so that I can commission as an officer when I graduate in 2021. Would my prior service matter in this instance? What are the chances of a prior serviceman/woman commissioning at a rank higher than O1?2018-02-06T16:12:45-05:00SN Kevin Neff3329350<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I'm prior service Navy in college for cyber security. Anything higher than O-1 requires a direct commission or specialty such as Doctor or Lawyer with a specialized graduate degree or doctorate.<br /><br />Prior service officers start as O-1E with a different pay scale depending on the length of your prior service.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 6 at 2018 4:18 PM2018-02-06T16:18:58-05:002018-02-06T16:18:58-05:00CA Delete D.3329824<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>ROTC? As prior service? Seriously? You wouldn't need to enlist in the reserves to commission as a veteran with a bachelors in CS. Prior service starts as O-1E....a mustang - you already would have credibility as long as you know your shit and don't shirk duty or something. I'd just enjoy your time as a civvie .......again, why the hell would you participate in ROTC as prior svc?Response by CA Delete D. made Feb 6 at 2018 6:58 PM2018-02-06T18:58:12-05:002018-02-06T18:58:12-05:00SGT Joseph Gunderson3329962<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Unless you hold a certain degree in a specific area (IE, physician assistant, MD, lawyer, etc) it will not happen.Response by SGT Joseph Gunderson made Feb 6 at 2018 7:51 PM2018-02-06T19:51:40-05:002018-02-06T19:51:40-05:00CPT Private RallyPoint Member3329984<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The only way you can commission as a Cyber Operations Officer (17A) at a rank higher than an O-1 is through the Cyber Direct Commissioning Program: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.goarmy.com/army-cyber/cyber-direct-commissioning-program.html">https://www.goarmy.com/army-cyber/cyber-direct-commissioning-program.html</a> Your time in service would count towards increased pay for your rate.
