What are the chances of me going to airborne school in I'm assigned to an airborne unit?

I'm currently in the process of moving up to Ft. Richardson, AK, from Ft. Riley Ks, and am not airborne qualified but its an airborne unit. Does anyone know if theyd send me to airborne school or would i just stay attached but not qualified? Ive heard that they'd send me to airborne school but it's just rumors and am just hoping to know what my future holds.

If you are going to an Airborne unit, the first thing they will ask you when you in process is if you want to go to Airborne School. If you say yes, it will be a priority for them to send you. If you say no, they will work to move you to a different unit if possible.

I'd venture a guess that if your orders don't have to TDY Enroute to Airborne school THEN your unit....it's really going to end up being a 50/50 shot. Who knows....you could get there and then they decide to send you. Or you could just stay a Leg. If you know what unit exactly you are going to, try contacting them to find out. Otherwise, you will just have to wait until you get there to find out.

Your chances of going once assigned can possibly be high. It all depends on funding and availability. You will likely be placed on an OML and go once you reach the top of it. Reach out to your gaining unit, ask those questions, and express your interest in going if that is what you want.

If you are coming to up here to 4/25 you will have plenty of chances to go. They will send anyone that wants to and some that dont.. haha

Airborne is the easiest school to get in to...... pretty easy, and fun.

Everyone else who commented is technically correct, but there is one other thing to consider as well and that is paid parachutist positions. Even at Bragg, assigned to an Airborne unit, there is no guarantee that you will he slotted into a paid position. Just something to keep in mind so you don’t get there and fully expect to jump and then can’t because you aren’t slotted that way.

Oh they'll send you or reassign you to the hell lnown as Ft Wainwright. At least that's what my soldiers tell me.

They will likely send you shortly after arrival depending on their deployment schedule. Get your run times straight. APFT for airborne school for males requires 42 pushups, 53 sit-ups and a 15:50 run. We also conduct several formation runs with an average between 8:45-9:00/mile pace. We’ll see you soon, Airborne.
