What are the different ways to get promoted as a 91B? What is the pay like?

I’ve enlisted in the army as an e2 as a 91 bravo I was wondering about the different ways to get promoted and what’s the pay like.

Army Wheeled Vehicle Mechanics are responsible, as the title suggests, for handling maintenance and repair of all tactical and some armored vehicles, both heavy and light. ... This job is categorized as Army military occupational specialty (MOS) 91B.

Become proficient at your job and promotions will come depending on time in service and time in grade. The best thing about military pay is that food, quarters, and medical are included. Save your money!

look at the newest pay chart is most likely on your units bulletin board or you can find it in the pay issue of Army Times and on line.

Everything up to E-4 is automatic, as long as you don’t have any kind of UCMJ pending.
1 year for E3
18 months with a waiver for E4
2 years for E4 automatic
The pay changes aren’t spectacular because your pay is based around your rank and your time on service. I’ve linked a screenshot of the paygrades and their pay with TOS.

91 series has a lot of upward mobility opportunities', Pass your APFT/ACFT, take online courses that are available through distance learning (education points), education and doing the right thing will pay off. I spent 18 years on the enlisted side then transitioned to Warrant Officer. I always made sure I was waiting on the Army when it came time for promotions, vs the Army waiting on me to complete my requirements. You already started out with a leg up but enlisting as an E2. You can view Army pay charts by using Google. I can promise you pay has increased quite a bit since I enlisted in 1997.

The single most important thing you can do now that will set you ahead of your peers a few ranks down the road is start taking college courses. Just take one at a time, you can do five a year easily like that. You need to take them in person, there are lots of great online schools these days. I recommend Coastline Community College. But there are colleges at the Education center that offer evening courses if your work schedule supports that. If it doesn't, don't let that be the reason you don't start.

Promotions after E4 are a competition for limited slots. Everyone is doing the same things to get promoted - good PT scores, weapons scores, military Ed, correspondence courses, etc - but most E4 91Bs have not started college until they realize they need jt for promotion. Four years down the road when you're competing for SGT or SSG your peers will just be starting college and you'll already have your associates

Keep doing PT and don't get in trouble and your promotion to SPC will be automatic. Being good at your job and having additional responsibilities placed on you requires time, studying, and effort.

If you want to make SGT you're going to need to compete against your peers for limited spots so being proficient in your MOS and soldierly tasks is going to be important.

Right now just figure out your MOS, do PT, and be reliable. Once you start getting that down start looking into regulations and doing online college. You're not going to know everything, but the more knowledge you do have and the ability to find the knowledge you need will put you up above others.

Knock out your DLC1 asap and start working on maxing your correspondence hours. That way you'll have a large chunck of points stocked up already. They're gonna look at your hours when you do your promotion board as well. The CSM will probably flame your NCO if you go in there with like 10 hours only. And if you have DLC done then as soon as you hit your Secondary zone you can try to get into a Board and get your P status, when u hit primary you'll be mandatory sent to the board but if you're squared away with a bunch of points and you have your DLC done you can try to get into the board earlier. You need to have your DLC done in order to get into BLC as well. And both are requirements to get promoted.

- Be a reliable soldier first! If you are a soldier that your leadership and chain of command can depend on, they will remember that when it is time to send someone to a school.
- Always try your hardest and do not become afraid to step up in any type of role. If there is an opportunity for you to be in charge, take it! Even if it means possibly looking dumb in front of your peers. Nothing beats experience.
- Most importantly, start COLLEGE! The Army is leaning heavily on those who are formally educated in regards to promotions. For your junior NCO ranks, college is great for promotion points and for your senior NCO ranks, having a degree will set you apart from your peers.

find you a good sergeant as a mentor don’t hang around personnel that it’s cancerous not going nowhere ask for counseling good or bad for your ETS back go to school.

Being promoted is cool, but take advantage of the times where you have less responsibilities as well.

Learn your job, always look for extra duty/responsibility. You know, things that set u apart from your peers. H8 is a good start. Google a military pay chart. Save your money and use the tsp.

Automatic E2 upon entering? Congrats. But for what? JROTC? Eagle scout? College creds?

From E1 to E4 just keep your nose clean and do kick ass work. Let your chain of command know you are there for mission accomplishment and do go things.

After that its a points system. Not gonna get into that a this point in your career. Just make sure that in your off time you are taking college classes and staying fit.

DO YOUR JOB. Do it to the best you can.
Go to every school you can. This should show your leadership that you want to learn and be more valuable to your unit and the army. With each School you earn promotion points.
You will need points from Military and civilian education. so if you have any college credits go promotion points.
