The best resource that I have found for military friendly schools are those that participate in the VA's Yellow Ribbon Program. You can find a list of these schools at the link below.

Western Governors University is easily the best University for IT degrees. They provide for the cost of certifications in their tuition, plus they charge per semester, not per credit so you can take as many classes as you can finish per 6 month period.

I had a great experience with Grand Canyon University (GCU). I majored in Public Safety Administration through the Ken Blanchard College of Business (KBCOB). I had a wonderful advisor Chaz Smith and an engaged instructor core. This was before the 9/11 GI Bill so I had to pay for part of each class. However, I was able to get a federal job making twice as much as I was before. And after completing a deployment I received my commission. I owe a large part of my professional and academic success to GCU and my wonderful wife.

Capt Charters-

I would love to support our brothers and sisters in uniform. I have to personally recognize the Air Force education system (CCAF) and Florida Communitry College of Jacksonville (FCCJ). These schools prepared me for success with a university. They had advisors and support that was tremendous. Truthfully I think CCAF is THE BEST program offered to military members hands down. I truly believe if every service had what the Air Force has with CCAF the retention and education levels would jump 50% in 3-5 years!

I would have to add the American Public University Systems or better known as AMU (American Military University) they were listed in the top ten of the Army Times school poll a few months back. I am about to graduate with my BA in Homeland Security this month and roll into my MA in January. My Voc Rehab from the VA has paid 100% for it all, to include tuition, books, supplies, etc, all fees associated with the school and their veterans aid department goes above and beyond for you, I emailed them what I needed and what I had and they did it all for me.

I also attended CTC and they are very user friendly for distance learning.

I am finishing up my Masters with Webster University. I ended up with half of my masters complete through my Captains Career Course credit. They work with military personnel really well and they have remote campuses and online options so you can do the course anywhere. Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any questions.

I am using my Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay for college. First, I started my education journey at Del Mar College. It is a community college located in Corpus Christi, Texas. I earned an Associates in Liberal Arts. Del Mar College has a veterans center that provides support for veterans and active duty Military. Second, I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi (TAMUCC). TAMUCC has a veterans office that helps with any type of issues. Lastly, I plan on pursuing a Masters in Public Administration at TAMUCC. Both schools have great veteran programs to help with transitioning from military to civilian life.

Charter Oak State College is great for MilTA. They waive a bunch of fees, and classes are under the MilTA cap. They take just about every CLEP/DSST/Thomas Edison, Excelsior, etc exam for credit

I'm currently working toward a Master's in Public Policy at the George Washington University. GWU is amazingly supportive of its veteran students - evident through their Yellow Ribbon Program. They contribute $18k for undergrad, $12k for grad students, and $15k for law students (all matched by the VA), essentially eliminating tuition costs for those using the GI Bill and YRP. They also have dedicated administrative, support, and counseling services for veterans.

Columbia Southern Univeristy has an amazing Graduate program that was cost effective and provides free books to service members. Majority of the universities I viewed would have had me paying out of pocket to cover tuition and 100% of book costs. CSU allowed me to finish my degree in two years at zero expense and had the best student advisors and faculty I've ever seen.

Sir, If you ever find yourself around the Ft. Bragg area or in NC in general, the school system there is very helpful with Military-affiliated students. Being a large military supporting state, with large and vibrant ROTC programs at each university definitely helps. Schools like Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and NC State provide top-tier education at affordable prices (minus Duke, maybe) and also provide great oppurtunities for getting into a new career.

American Military University, I got my BBA, and MBA w/concentration in Accounting through them and as an Enlisted that was able to interact with many officers during my Master's courses, I loved it and use the lessons learned in my day to day activities.

Sir - I chose to go to American InterContinental University for my BBA in healthcare management. I was able to complete all required courses online using top-up and GI Bill in under two years. I am currently going for my MBA as well. The undergraduate classes are 5 weeks long, and my graduate classes are all 10 weeks long. Generally, if the TA or GI Bill funding does not kick in before the classes start then they will grant you additional time for funding. Also, all of my military training was accepted as credits toward my undergraduate degree.

Eastern Kentucky University. I may have my bias but was ranked 2nd in the Nation for Vets in 2012 and currently top 30 according to Army Times. GO COLONELS!

I've had a really good experience with Western Governors University. They work really well with military and if you're in the IT field like me, a lot of their courses include getting industry certs.

best school for TA is local schools because the commander signs off the TA Request form and he/she can research the validity of the school through the education system on the installation.

Using the GI Bill depends on how the Institution offers the financial awards. Check it out with others...i.e...online business bureau's who are watchdogs.

I can only speak to Boston College. I dropped out in the 1st semester of my freshman year. But 3 years later when I was at Camp Geiger NC, I decided to return to BC. Everyone told me that once you drop out of BC they will not take you back. But BC did take me back with the help of the Marines who gave me a letter of recommendation and the BC Associate Dean who thought I would be a good student after being in the Marines. BC took a special interest in how I did transferring from the Marines to student life. So, I am forever grateful to this Jesuit College for giving me a second chance when I was told that just doesn't happen. I am very active in the Alumni Association and a member of the Boston College Veterans Network. This photo was taken at the BC Memorial Day Ceremony that honored our fallen classmates from the Vietnam War..

One that doesn't come to mind--at least it never did for me until I came to work here--is the Harvard Kennedy School of Government's 1-4 week Executive Education programs. They have a pretty impressive list of programs and they take the GI Bill and will process Yellow Ribbon requests. They are looking for mid-senior-level vets with experience in the public & non-profit sectors, and definitely do not accept everyone, but if I had heard of them before I came here, I would have been using my benefits to update my resume and think non-military thoughts...
