I am wanting to enlist. I was in the marine corps 95-99. With a re-1a code. And I was a e-4 when I got out. So my correct age is 38. My mos was 0311. I talked to the army today and was told I was too old for active or reserve. Navy said that due to high tenure they wouldn’t take me. And the airforce said they didn’t have a mos to cross over into. no one offered retraining. I do have a meeting with the coast guard reserve and the national guard on Wednesday. But I was really wanting to go active. What’s the odds of going with the guard and then agr or transfer over to active later. Or should I try other recruiters? Yes, you can enlist in the Army National Guard being prior service at 42 since you already have 4 years TIS, which would allow you to get 20 years in by Age 60. The 20 years by age 60 is the limiting factor. You have been out for a long time, so expect to have to retake the ASVAB, you still have to get through MEPS, and you may have to attend AIT again. <br />Once you get in, yes, you can apply for any AGR slot you are qualified to file, or you can apply for Active Duty Special Works, which are generally short term active duty positions. At age 42, I would not think that you would be a likely recruit for Active Duty outside of the Guard/Reserve.
