What are the odds of my reclassifying to 25B or 25M? What are they like and what should I study before AIT?

My re-enlistment window is open and my current MOS is over strengthed. I was looking into Fort Riley as my next duty station but it didn't come up as an option. The career counselor is sending up a request, but if they don't have slots for me I'd like to reclass to better my chances of getting an assignment there. So I have a couple questions. What are the odds of that happening? What is it like being a 25M/25B? If I reclass what should I study up on to have a good chance in AIT and being the best I can be?

Amazing still 94F over strengthed, even when in 2002 I finished 35F which became 94F later! Reclass! 94F translates to nothing but an ATM repair tech! SERIOUSLY!.. RECLASS AND SAVE YOUR ASS!

SPC Wendy Morningstar, the advise I will tell is is first, your going to Ft. Riley, KS. I was there. If they feel you are good enough your chief will left you know. You have to get used to the team and way of doing things; don’t forget soldiers can cross train just in case another team or is sick, on leave etc. if you act like you want it to much you might get a chance and fail out the gate. I use to do that to my pears all the time in the beginning only to tell the leaders if don’t work out come back and get me. I will be the back up. I never told the soldier I had what they needed. It will come.

It shouldn't be an issue getting a 25B class seat, assuming your line scores qualify. 25M is a lot less common to see, and being a smaller MOS will be harder to promote in down the road. You won't get to choose your follow on assignment after graduation.

If you want to see the Rank of Sergeant, stay away from 25M. If you love being on detail because they don’t know what to do with you go for it.

You need to talk to your Retention NCO. They can show you what your options are based on “in” and “out” calls for your current MOS and your desired MOS. You don’t need to study before your new AIT, but if you want to know what to expect, talk to your first line leader and get permission to talk to your S6 shop about what they do. As a SPC, you don’t want to go to your BN S6 shop without some top cover.

I thought my retention nco mentioned 25series were up for 20,000 bonus for reenlistment. 25b translates better to the civilian side as well if you get out/retire

Currently Fort Riley is taking 94R, but we're going to verify saturated with NCOs right now and I'm looking to reclass out of it. Also I can't imagine you'd ever want to go back to Gordon.

25M is a strange MOS. Im active duty and I love the work I do, but you will most likely end up in a public affairs shop and have to deal with way more BS than you originally signed up for. Units (at least mine) continuously "forget" that they needed a poster for an event happening that day and you are expected to create one in sometimes less than an hour. The work will transition well on the civilian side, so at least that's a plus. If you get a degree in the field, you're looking at jobs with companies like Netflix, Nike, and Google. However if you intend to stay a full 20 and retire, this is definitely not the job for you. It took over 6 years for three different people that I know to even pick up E5.

Just go to MEPS and tell them that’s all you want and if they don’t have it tell them you’ll come back when they do. That’s what i did and low and behold they found a spot for me.
