If you go there and have a piss poor attitude, like a lot of Soldiers that go to Korea, you won't like it much. I did almost half of my career there and had a lot of job satisfaction. If you go to one of the BCTs, you can expect to go to the NTC and the two train-up exercises, and they are also doing nine month deployments to Korea and Europe. When go there just keep an open mind. Field, deployment, field, etc. Rain, heat, snow, humidity. Savannah exists but chances of getting a DUI are super high if you go that route. There is almost nothing in Hinesville. Walmart sucks, schools are horrible if you have kids. Just moved to Atlanta, had to get out of there. I was supporting 3-7 CAV and 2-7 INF during the time I was there. The field can get cold and muddy in the winter, hot and humid in the summer. The garrison there, is pretty good. The big place to visit on the weekends is River Street in Savannah, Tybee Island. As for Hinesville, well, the only thing I remember there is the Wal-mart. Get to likeing BUGS they go up your nose and the deer fly's bite the crap out of you. Did I mention training?? We were dog ass tiered after coming in from the field. But there was a little bar just outside the main gate called the Oasis I once went there and the nexr morning could not find my 1979 corvette stingray so I called the MP's and reported it stolen....they called back about an hour later and told me in was parked in the Oasis parking lot with the engine running and the doors locked. We trained hard and partied hard.. some of the best times of my life. Good luck and if the Oasis bar is still there let me know.
