My guess is a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth, but at the end of the day kind of a nothing burger.
We will get demonstrations for a while. Maybe a bombing. Unfortunately, it is par for the course over there.
The most lasting consequence is that the USA is unlikely to be able to get the Palestinian Authority to sit at a table for talks unless we reverse this decision. It might be a reality that Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel and has been for decades, but the Palestinians will never concede that point.
Additionally, we are likely to get some negative feedback from some of the Muslim nations in the region.
Not really sure what the motive was to do this now.
If you ask me, the motive is to yell "SQUIRREL!" and get everyone to look at this instead of the Judge Moore endorsement.

It will serve to deflect a lot of unrest away from despotic governments in the Middle East and North Africa and onto Israeli and US treatment of the Israeli / Palestinian problem. I'm sure repressive regimes everywhere are rejoicing.

Initially, No, I don't think it is sound. That written, I am certainly no expert on the ages-old political firestorm that is the Middle East, but my first thought/question is, "what is the benefit to the USA"? What do we stand to gain from making this announcement that we didn't already have in place?

Like many, I think initially it will cause conflict: To what extent is unknown. USA and related entities (people, buildings, business, etc) may see stepped-up targeted attacks throughout the region. The USA's ability to more or less navigate diplomatically, to claim middle-man mediator status, will take a hit since the move will be seen as the USA unilaterally siding with Israel on an issue of great religious importance to both sides. The Peace Process, what little of it existed, will most likely grind to a halt, and in area historically rife with it, we may actually see an increase in tension as both sides grapple with the news.

I hope I'm wrong, I hope that it actually causes the right people to say "WTF, it kind was anyway, so let's get on with trying to figure a way out of this power keg before it blows".

OK- 1. Jerusalem was the capitol of the Israeli people for several thousand years . 2. They can make anywhere they want as their capitol, we have no say on it. 3. I doubt that it will help the problems in the area, but nothing has helped much in 70+ years. Hate groups will not go away just because of their capitol location.

We have resisted doing this because it is loaded. It goes back to the destruction of the great temple. Each side has prophecy that the temple/mosque is restored, respective messiahs/prophets come etc. 1967 during the 6 day war, Israel makes the bold move to strike deep to seize the old city, after the exile. The site holds signifance for Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

Recognition of the capital as Jerusalem firmly sides with Israel and slams the door on the Arab world. It will either be a bold move or a huge road block to peace in the Levant. Let's face it, it has been strategic malaise for two decades. Tit for tat hostility going no where.

It is God's will. Palestine is a myth, first perpetrated by the Romans. Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for over 3,000 years, and in modern times for over 70 years. So called Palestinians (check their DNA to find they are Jordanian, Iraqi, Egyptian, Syrian, Lebanese, Bedouin, etc.) and some Islamists are upset because they view US recognition as a defeat in the era of the Fifth Crusade. The President is affiliated with the Knights Templar and the historical significance of his actions were not lost on him or other Templars. We are in the beginnings of the Fifth and Final Crusade. The Islamists are losing and they know it. They will become increasingly more and more desperate. We shall be victorious but need to remain ever vigilant. Hooah!

The repercussions? It would appear to be exactly two dead Palestinian protesters who were killed by Israeli security forces during a protest. In reality the Muslim world is unhappy with the decision, but they also acknowledge that the Palestinians have long been responsible for disrailing any real attempt at peace.

As a Christian I am extremely happy and excited that we have a President that will recognize Jerusalem as the real Capital of the Israel people. . It has been their capital and holy city longer than any other capital of the world. All that people have to do is read the Bible to understand its importance to Israel and later Christians and Muslims. The Jewish people have been over run many times in their history but always came back and reclaimed Jerusalem as their Capital and Holy City. With the United States recognizing it this will allow many other countries throughout the world to follow. The only ones that will not be happy are the Muslims who have tried for thousands of years to take over this city. I want to thank the US Navy for allowing me the privilege of visiting Israel 3 times. I found this country and its people to be the friendliest and most loyal to the United States.

Don't believe the move will influence the outcome either way. The move is only a relatively minor thing in the overall landscape of relations between the two. We are just the great satan type nation for the Palestinian terrorists to hate when they are not hating the Isralies. It will take major concessions on one side or the other to get movement between those two.

It my understanding that Israel has half the city and the Palestinians have the other half. I don’t understand what th3 big deal is. Only that either side wo7ld oppose anything the other side wanted to do. I think that they will get over it. It is nobody’s business what we do on our friends land. 1. This is a sound political and strategic move. Every president since Bill Clinton in 1992 promised to move the US Embassy to Israel's capital. It took the fourth president, President Trump, to make good on promises made by all three prior presidents. A nation's embassy should be in the host nation's capital. To the best of my knowledge Israel was the only nation we did not have our embassy in the capital city. Furthermore, it is hard to trust a nation like the US, when we say we are going to do something and we do not. On these two points alone moving our embassy to Israel's capital city is both a sound political and strategic move.

2. There will never be peace between Israel and the Arabs. As those of us who have served in the Middle East can attest, muslims live in a culture of conflict. It is me against my brother, my brothers against my father, my family against my extended family, my extended family against my clan, may clan against the region and so forth. Muslims have now turned in recent years to the Jewish state of Israel. Even though there were no major Arab population centers in modern day Israel when Samual Clemens (Mark Twain) visited the Holy Land in 1867, they now claim to be displaced by the Jewish people. The only solution for the muslim is to drive the Jews into the sea. With battle cries like that we don't have to worry about enraging muslims because of placing our embassy in Israel's capital. The only peace with muslims is to convert to islam or die. Furthermore, Israel is called "The Little Satan" by muslim. "The Big Satan" is the United States. America really should not be concerned with how muslims nations think of us or our relationships with other nations.

When I visited there about 1995 there were many Palestinians who couldn't even go to property they owned, also many Jews who had purchased property with their own funds were having trouble visiting their land. This has been ongoing since the Exodus, and here we are, still not wise enough to resolve this crisis.On my way from Jericho to Jerusalem there were the remains by the road of a burn't out tank from the war.Hopefully we all will be wise enough to resolve this to the satisfaction and benefit o all. At a minimum, it means that the US is more or less being forced out of the table when it comes to any talk of peace in the region. We are no longer trusted as an impartial party and this decision has thrown away any pretext in concern for justice or international law; which we could at least pretend to be invested in before.

It is not sound policy. It is strictly political pandering with consequences that will cripple progress for who knows how long.

What the final enabling of Clinton's policy has done is to make it clear that our only reliable allies in the mideast are the jews.
