Dear Colleagues,

While there have been many times in the past that I thought the world had gone completely mad, now 200 girls have been abducted by Boko Harem, an Islamic Jihadist militant and terrorist group. Why? Because the girls dared go to school.

We can't be the world's policemen. Nigeria is said to be working with European, African, and Middle Eastern governments (not to mention US AFRICOM and CIA) for several years to resolve the Boko Harem problem. Now, we have this abduction.

I certainly understand this is not a unique situation. People are suffering from slavery, starvation, genocide, rape, torture, and many other downright evil acts all over the world.

What can or should we do about in response to atrocities and/or pending atrocities??

Was the greatest generation the last to intervene on behalf of helpless people?

Warmest Regards, Sandy

I think we have the wrong mindset sometimes. &nbsp; We have to change cultures and minds to have real change. &nbsp; We can't just go in there and save the 200 girls. &nbsp; It will just lead to more violence and strengthen their cause.<div>It's much like a pedifile. &nbsp; You can't just keep keeping the kids away from them, you have to change the mind, change the person. &nbsp; Attack the problem. (or dispose of the problem)</div><div>Until that culture/belief is changed, this will never end.</div><div>We also have to encourage those who can or are afraid, to stand up for their rights and beliefs. &nbsp;Start a movement. &nbsp;</div><div>This is just my 130am banter.</div>

SSG Burns,

I couldn't agree more. There is more to do than just intervene.
Intervention may be necessary to stop the specific act of terror.

But, we need to capture the hearts and minds of these people.

Perhaps this is a little like nation building, just not so ambitious.

How do we get them to stop kidnapping, torturing, killing girls?

How do we introduce some sense of human rights to the world?

Warmest Regards, Sandy

The only reason they do it is because they think they can. &nbsp; We have to make them terrified to do so if we can't change their mind to not do it.

I think you post could just as easily be read this way.
How many countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America; are homosexuals, gays, 'witches' and 'demons' being killed?
"While I agree with this thinking, in the end, what you are saying is: "Christianity is a DISEASE to be dealt with and CURED". While there ARE some so called moderate Christians, the bad FAR outweighs the good in this case.

In MY mind, why Christianity gains a "Cult" like status is that the followers are willing to DIE for it, in the name of IT.

Although Service Members DO die in the line of duty, that is not their INTENTION, their purpose.

Christians are indoctrinated from childhood in their "CULT", from the righteousness of "dying for the cause" to the "We're RIGHT and everyone else got it wrong" idea.

The ONLY reason that Christianity is accepted as a religion at all is that the Bible incorporated the OLD TESTEMENT that both Judaism and Islam are built upon.

Remember that a Majority of Christian followers in most other countries are illiterate and are taught by their Priests through repetition. Because of this, Priests have an excessive influence.

My stance has always been that to "conquer" an Christian country, you have to EDUCATE the populace and allow them to read and THINK for themselves. In talking about this , you have to think in terms of GENERATIONs, not months, years, or even decades.

You can rebuild every building, every road, the towns, ALL of it. You can provide brand new ways of earning a living, more enlightened ways of enforcing laws, of settling "scores". If you don't change how the populace is EDUCATED, it is all for NOT"

All those things are happening here too. In house problems need to be resolved before we should be looking to save the world.<br>As for Nigeria, Exxon and other oil companies have sizable paramilitary resources to maintain the security of the plants, wells and pipelines... Ask them to look at humanitarian aid in the countries they exploit rather than just raping them the way Boka Harem does their victims.<br>

They are there to protect the oil, stability of the country goes a long way to that end...<br>

PMCs could be a way to resolve that issue, but every time one rises to the level of competence and operational level capability (vice tactical or strategic), governments shift nervously in their seats and they are scuttled. For the right PMC, under the right contract, under the right host nation Sovereign control, it could be possible to leverage PMCs to resolve smaller conflicts.

And that sir, is why the neon-clonialization being exercised by multi-national corporations is such a bad idea... It's not like some of those governments aren't wholesale owned by the PMC sponsors anyway.

Chief, check out the case where Papua New Guinea hired Sandline and then defaulted on the contract. An international claims court actually found in favor of Sandline...also go back to the condition set I enumerated.

I agree with SSgt Burns and SFC Gates just to go I there and save 200 girls will do nothing but save 200 girls.
We as a nation need to realize and understand what were are dealing with when it comes to Islam. Until we completely understand this, the brutalty that Islam.
And before someone comes back and says that Islam is peaceful. I have read the Koran.
People were saying that getting rid of the leaders of Egypt and Syria( the ones that were kicked out) was the best thing to happen. Yes they we're mean and heavy handed, but they understood there enemy and kept them under thumb and under control. Which in turn kept them from organizing and taking over. Now you have non Islamic people being told to convert or pay a tax to live ( straight from the Koran)
Wow sorry for my rant(first time in a long time I have been able to state my options with people who have a good understanding of where I am coming from)

MSgt Herbert,

If we can't do better now then saving 200 girls is saving 200 girls.

Saving 1 or a million, they should all be saved. Damned sad they have to live in fear. Like the villagers in Nam, tried hiding their girls, young men from VC so they wouldn't take them.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
