What are/were your thoughts after you've/you'd just been deployed?

SPC Margaret Higgins - Literally, my first thought both times to Iraq and the time to Afghanistan.
I clearly remember the opposite being true when I got off the plane in Africa... "man, this place doesn't smell!"
Well, it did smell, just not right away. I just wasn't looking in the right spot.

That's interesting, that that was your first thought in both countries; First Sergeant. 1SG (Join to see). I-never having seen combat-would think that it would have been fear....but I know that you are a First Sergeant, and I know just how highly trained you must have been.
