I see many who retired out of the military having problems integrating into a civilian workplace. If the person was a senior leader for a long time the transition back to being a follow is often difficult. They have issues with the fact that the civilian employer really could care less that they were senior leaders. The civilian employer cares what value the veteran can provide to that organization in the here and the now. I have also seen issues with vets not translating their resume terminology into civilian terms. One cannot assume that the prospective employer has any knowledge of the military and the resume should reflect that. Using terms like OIC or NCOIC just to name a couple will confuse a potential employer. Manager or supervisor would be more appropriate and easily understood. I could probably write a book on transitioning and the challenges associated with it lol SGT David T.
