Commander was going on about how bad it was and we hadn't learned anything, our primary TAC started on about how we had disappointed her, we all started looking at each other and wth-ing, we had worked our tails off squaring each other away and assigning people specific items to check prior to inspection.
Finally one TAC starting lol-ing and that got the others going, we had one of the best inspections any of the could remember. There were 85-ish of us and all but 2 earned it (on probation so couldn't get it). I went through WOC in 98, shortly after it changed to the 6 week program. coming from a non aviation background, the only thing I had was lots of books from the vietnam era to understand how hard it was going to be. After the first week I realized the 6 week program was more of a check the box course than anything that was going to teach me something. I found it to be one of the easiest courses I had ever been to.

Worst day was sitting through the etiquette class. An hour long video from some high society woman about how to eat properly at a social function, which fork to use, how to cut your meat, where to place your napkin, etc.. complete waste of time. Whoever had the idea that is what it takes to be an officer was an idiot. We were part of the Pilot program that allows those with PME to not have to attend the first 10 days of training. While that was cool for us (1700 release to our cars and back before midnight) it really sucked for our "Brave 11" that were either High school to flight school or SPC to flight school. They had to fill all the additional duties. The TACs we had were dedicated and ensured we followed the WOC guide like our lives depended on it. The only issue was we were a pilot so a lot of the normal stuff that was going on in other classes we did not due, but then again a lot of the stuff we did others did not do (Ruck march, field problem, Warrant Officer Ball). So all in all WOC was stressful but not overwhelmingly so. I was 'Stands' and in that capacity the Senior TAC determined that I had not completed the wall locker display standards in one significant area...the female candidates underwear! As a consequence, I spent several hours on two evenings in the female candidate barracks correcting that deficiency. Did you realize that cotton and nylon react differently to rolling vs folding? Also one can successfully stack reinforced bras cup in cup, but more flimsy bra construction works better folded than stacked. Thus enlightened I rewrote that portion of the standards book to the great glee of the TACS. While initially VERY embarrassed explaining my mission to the female we ended up having a great time experimenting with all the variants possible and regained a new appreciation for being a 'hands on' soldier. The good thing (or bad thing for my class mates) was that I came to WOCS after being a Drill Sergeant for 2.5 years. First week they made me the class leader as well, so it was interesting to have former and fellow Senior NCOs come up to me and say “don’t treat us like PVTs”, to which I promptly responded, “Well, don’t act like one! You were and E-7 last week, so act like it. If you can’t read the WOC SOP and understand how your hanging clothes should be spaces, you probably should go work on that!” The Senior class above us was worse. When they would come do “barracks inspections” or formations they would be pretty mad at me for calling them out for saying blatantly wrong information or for their jacked up D&C. One of them (who was a Med Equipment repair NCO turns dMed Repair Tech really didn’t like it when I did that. Sorry I spent the last couple of years pounding the basics in new soldiers at Fort Benning. If you want to ge mad at me for correcting you as well, better look in the mirror and see what you should fix on your own. My TACs always backed me up when they complained to the Senior TAC anyways.
