What are your opinions of Fort Bliss Vs Fort Stewart?

I have the option of both and both have their ups and downs. It will be my first PCS I'm having a hard time trying to decide on which one. GA is my state of residence and is where all my family is. My wife and I have friends at Bliss and it looks really nice there. There also seems like there's a lot to do there, both on and off post. Does anyone have any opinions on either of these 2?

Probably the most important thing, regardless of where you go, is to make the best of every location the Army takes you. Every location has its pros and cons; how much you focus on the pros tends to become a major part of how much you like the location.

With that said... the Army is a great way to travel and see the world with your family. I'd say go for something new, instead of sticking with the comfort of the known. Fort Bliss does have a lot to offer - and is constantly doing things for the families stationed there. Since PCSing from there a year or so back, my family has regularly commented on how much they'd like to go back - which is saying something big, in my opinion.

I don't have a lot of experience with Fort Stewart, so someone else will need to provide feedback about that location. Food for thought, and best of luck with whichever place you find yourself!

Have not been to Ft Stewart in several years. It is close to Savannah and Tybee Island (Nice Beach).

Fort Bliss, you have El Paso..The area is also cool. Different vibe though. They revamped the PX area on FT Bliss. Looks like a town center area complete with several good restaurants to include an Irish pub and a sushi restaurant. Makes you forget you are on post.

I just cam from Bliss, and I loved it, I would love to go back. I am supposed to be going to Stewart after I get back from Korea. Like CSM Private RallyPoint Member, said, there are a lot of things to do on Ft Bliss, and it is an extensive area. El Paso and the Surrounding areas, are alright. My family is in Hinesville right now, and my wife, doesn't seem to mind it that much. It's close enough to a lot of things where you don't have to stay in or around Stewart.

However as SFC Private RallyPoint Member said, go for something new. My family and my wife's family both live in NC, and that is one reason that I do not want to go to Bragg, and part of the reason that I am slightly happy that I am currently in Korea. With the Army you get to travel the world, and enjoy things that you never thought you would have before.

You also have to make the best of it. No matter what anyone on this site says about either of those installations, or any other installations that the Army has to offer, it is all what you make of it.

I did not like Bliss because there was no grass. That is the only issue I had with it. If you can get past that it really is a good place to be.

I spent 7 years in Texas and was not a fan. I hate not having seasons. There's something just wrong about being able to wear shorts on Christmas day.

how fast do u run.... if you are struggling in any way i do not recommend ft bliss the elevation is about 4700 ft above sea level ... off post there is plenty to do main post is fairly nice the thing that i think sucks is running for pt its almost like running in ft Carson

SPC C, no matter where you go it's all about what you put into it determines what you get out of it. I can't speak for Ft Bliss. But if you're from Georgia and like to hunt/fish/outdoor stuff, Ft Stewart is a good post. I was there '89-'90 and being three hours from home (Florida) made it that much better for me plus I had two uncles stationed there prior.

I'm headed to Stewart myself (I had option to Bliss) and based on what I've been told by people there and who've been there, Stewart isn't bad at all. You deal with the same stressors regardless of duty station, but comparatively I've never heard anyone say anything good about Ft. Bliss. For most, it's been the worst experience of their career. Georgia will likely have more to offer as far as things to do outside of Army work. Beach, Savannah, close to Florida, etc. Ft. Bliss is a desert. Choose wisely.

I can't say so much for FT Stewart I was stationed at Bliss about 5 yrs ago. Food in surrounding area is really good but there is nothing for miles. Commissary and Freedoms crossing (PX mall) are all both rather new. There wasn't that much for family on post from what I experienced. As for Stewart I will be there next week. We will see bust since it isn't in the middle of the desert it has to be a lot better.

Plan on going to Ft Stewart, be prepared to take a ride on the Marne Train. Train that does not slow down. Be prepared for the ride of your life. 6 years at that duty station
