What are your plans for Armed Forces Day this coming Saturday?

I'll be taking my Fiancee's teenaged twin boys down to Ellington Field for the annual "Auto and Aeros Show". They'll get to see several static displays of both old and new equipment. They're both very inquisitive- so I'm looking forward to answering their questions and letting them know what Armed Forces Day is all about.

I'd like to hear what your plans are this Saturday.

Ripping up my backyard and fixing the mysterious sprinkler leak that I have. Also hope to get my fish tank set-up thise weekend.

All I know is that I got stuck acting as company commander this week (CO is on maternity leave) so I'm stuck with all these armed services week events, including a 5k "fun run" on Thursday. I don't mind running 5k - I usually run 4 miles in the morning - but God I hate running in large formations.

There will be an even dozen of my vet friends with their wives or fiancees and who knows how many kids of all ages. The big grills fire up at 2:00 plus we'll be pulling pork and saucing that up. Most of the couples come with their picnic tables in the back of the pickup and we line those up in the shade. We can put on a great fireworks for the youth (and young at heart, including me) and do so safely as we finished planting 40 acres of soybeans today. (Looks like 40 acres of dirt, very nicely manicured.... :-)
We'll have on the outside stereo system with a mix of County, Rock and "Country Rock" until we light the fires in the burn pits and haul out guitars, one sax, 2 fiddles, couple of mandolins and harmonicas plus one of those newfangled drum boxes. It should be a mellow evening. I have heard rumors we're going to have a little shine from way up Happy Holler.
