I think we are going to drive up into the mountains and find a good spot to camp out for the day. Air Force camping means we leave at sunset for the warm bed & steak dinner :)

I think my Mom and I are going to lunch and then to the cemetery to ‘visit’ my Dad. He served in Army Air Corps during WWII and then Air Force during Korean War

Veteran's Day is a school day so I will be in the classroom teaching mathematics to my students but you can bet I will take a few minutes out of each class to remind them of the sacrifices made over the last couple hundred years by our men and women in uniform that have served our great country.

Up until this year the JROTC always went to the local V. A. Medical Center but due to COVID they can't go this year. How sad is that?

My granddaughter is the manager at Great Clips in Ft. Gratiot, Mi and wants me to come get a free hair cut. I generally stay home can't forget the way we were treated when we came home so I let others enjoy the free things. I served because I wanted to not to be thanked for my choice. I was spit on when I came home and called a baby killer. I still want to be on the firing squad for Jane.

Continuing to recover from the Chinese Virus while going through some scary moments with my wife. I will continue the tradition by lighting off my anchor lamp and hoisting a cognac for those I lost. You can't do 32 years without losing people close to you. Most you'd never heard of, but losing Dave on the Columbia was one of them.

Nothing special ,used to get stinking drunk on Veterans Day but that ended back in 1977,now just remember those foul mouthed,bad mannered,sarcastic,bitchin and moaning young men with whom I shared a time and so many memories

Capt Brandon Charters, I still work daily in a financial services practice specializing in retirement planning. The NYSE is open tomorrow, so our office will be also. I’ll join an old friend for lunch, but ironically, he never served.

wander the 2 Vet cemeteries' here in my town. Visit my kinfolk, talk to them, lay my change on the headstones of my folks, think of others buried in different parts. Smoke a fine cigar around them, and have a wee dram of the good stuff in their honor as we talk about the past when we were Young. maybe sing some of the Airborne ditties we knew by heart, play some Toby Keefe country and others that made us stand straighter, and made the hair on our neck curl. Maybe read poetry- The Feast of St Stephen or Scots Wha Hae, straighten their flags and visit a wee bit. As the sun starts to go play copy of Sgt McKinzies Lament, and lastly Flowers of the Forest, last Retreat of the day. The slowly walk thru my friends, kith, kin and family to the car and drive off to home, remembering those who where lain elsewhere and then Thank God for such people.

Capt Brandon Charters I am going to type a small story about a parade at Camp Roberts, CA in 1969 and send it to my sons for more information as to what I did in the CAARNG.

Both sons have been ‘down range’ for a week at Ft Irwin in 1973, courtesy of SFC Russel Findlay, RA Advisor to 3/160 Infantry, 40th ID, CAARNG along with his son, for a week during Annual Training that year.

Before I went into teaching my employers used to give the Veterans the day off with pay. I thought that was really cool seeing how none of them ever served. I will be at school teaching today.

Visited a couple late friends in San Diego this morning. Face timed another long time friend. I recently found out he's terminal. Never thought i'd be the only one of us four to live past 58.
Kind of a tough day. But some wonderful memories and a lot of reflection today.

I am a member of a gun club. Their US Flag is in tatters.

My 4 year old and myself dressed up in our uniforms, took the flag from our home, and replaced the one at the gun club.

With my iPhone and a wifi speaker I played Retreat and To the Colors. We pulled the old one down slowly under Retreat, and raised the new one fast with To the Colors.

To his credit, the 4 year old was able to hold the flag well enough for me to fold it correctly all be it a little slowly.

We plan to burn it correctly when weather permits.

My plan for Veterans Day wz drastically changed by pandemic, but I did start it way I'd planned.

Wz driven that a.m. to Denny's by son-in-law (civilian) & sat at table with my husband's encased flag at empty seat, veterans at nxt table. Wz treated respectfully by staff & other diners. Finished breakfast just as s-i-l arrived to pick me up.

Near noon, s-i-l drove me to Home Depot, where I bought supplies to make improvements to RV I'm staying in on his (& my daughter's) property. When we finished there, we (s-i-l, his nephew, his son--my grandson--& I went to Chili's, where I wz treated (by Chili's) to lunch. Full, after 2 satisfying meals, took nap--as is natural for senior citizen. Wz awakened by son, also veteran, who informed me coin & precious metals store wz gifting veterans with one ounce of silver. After we collected our gift, son took me to Taco Cabana, where we were treated (T.C.) to dinner.

Pandemic didn't provide best situation--would hv been in procession with husband's flag if there had been parade--but the day wz satisfactory, under present circumstances.
