For starters I would recommend that the gun-free zones be eliminated if for no other reason than it would confuse many of the evil ones MAJ David Vermillion
2nd leaders should make it clear what is unacceptable and not wince when it comes to naming names.
3rd leaders should promote behavior which benefits communities - sharing with those less fortunate, helping those with disabilities including veterans, the elderly and children.
4th local leaders should promote the concept of community groups to talk with each other openly, report suspicious behavior, and work with the police and not become vigilantes.
5th leaders should reinstitute the concept of neighbors looking our for neighbors.
6th leaders should promote communication and trust between police and the communities to improve relationships.
7th leaders at all levels should lead, accept responsibility for all that their subordinate do or fail to do. Freely give credit to subordinates for jobs well done.

If I have to rely on our elected leaders I think I'll pass.

That being said better situational awareness when you are out and about
Having a good active shooter plan/drill in place. Yes in CA they said they did do that, but only once a month. Even some of the video initially showed people talking about it being a drill etc. to me that's a major no-no. If you're going to practice it practice it like its for real.
For me and my family. I'll be carrying wherever I go(that's legal).

Crying damn shame though that we even have to worry bout stuff like this. Maybe reality is catching up with us (United States). We are not immune to bad things happening.

For the most part, America is Safe. We are.

The chances of being killed in any kind of violent altercation are slim. Remote.

The things that are going to kill you are: Heart Disease. Cancer. Old Age. Auto Accident. Crime (et al) is way down at #10 and is like 1/10th of Heart Disease/Health Related issues. It's a DISTANT behind car accidents.

This is a "big to small" issue. If you want to be "safer;" Take Care of your body, don't text & drive, and don't worry too much about things you can't control. That doesn't mean don't keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen... (or parallel arguments)... but don't stress about "hyped up" reporting which is unlikely to affect you if you aren't in a high risk area.

We can start by taking the threat seriously, and taking serious action to make them pay for every move they successfully make.
I would make them very uncomfortable where they live. Turn off the lights. Fly an EA-6 or whatever is current, turn on the EW suite to eleven, and fry every bit of electronic infrastructure and devices in ISIS territory. Aggressively attack jihadists websites with cyber assets. Go hard after their economic systems - they are very vulnerable.

Basically, we have to make Jihad unprofitable.
Then kill the crap out of the ideologues.

My advice, would be stop trying to take guns away from law abiding citizens. Stop dismantling the Constitution because it doesn't fit in with your wanna be Utopian society ideals. Stop thinking that climate change is a bigger threat than Daesh. In my opinion they need to stop living in whatever world they live in and pay attention to the real world, specifically our nation. Finally, when violence happens and the perpetrator is someone who has ties to an foreign entity that can be proven STOP denying that it is anything but terrorism, this workplace violence political correctness shit is just that SHIT. This may offend some, but this is the reality that I see playing out before our own eyes.

The issue here is not that complicated on the surface. Root cause, develop resolution and then fix the problem. In this instance, its like ROEs. only written in our Constitution. We have limits on what we can do until someone commits a crime. Start with the thousands on the watch list and start monitoring them closely. Have a cadre of young people that monitor social media and pass any threats on to someone to take action. Certainly, DON'T PERMIT anyone on the watch list to have weapons or the ability to acquire the necessary elements to build explosive devices. Put spies in Mosques to see if they are radicalizing young dumb people. This is not the country our Founders envisioned. Pass a law that permits the taking away citizenship of those that perpetrate actions or plans to harm or kill American citizens. Want more?

MAJ David Vermillion The truth is that since 9/11 only 6 Americans average per year have been killed by terrorists. The main emphasis that governments can employ is to employ maximum vigilance. If you see something, say something. There is a very limited ability to prevent lone wolf terrorists, if they choose to remain off the radar. Vigilance is key.

MAJ David Vermillion Following my retirement , I worked in the Homeland Security/Emergency Management Div of our county sheriff dept. My responsibility was the CERT Teams, the VOAD, COAD, neighborhood watch, all of these was tuned in to the terror threat. This was a force multiplier with many eyes focused to observe and report on suspicious activity.

First, I live in a state where we are allowed to defend ourselves and I choose to do so; I am not a sitting duck. Second, I don't rely on our leaders to make me safer. In my opinion, they have not decided that is a national priority.
