What are your thoughts about actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise receiving the Sylvanus Thayer Award for 2015?

My first impressions of Gary Sinise were from watching him on CSI: New York. I learned later that he portrayed Lt Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump and that he formed the Lt Dan Band.
In CSI: New York, I was impressed both by his acting and the generally positive portrayal of Military service members and veterans. It is somewhat interesting that Gary placed Mac Taylor in CSI after playing LT Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump.
Personally I am glad that he has been selected to receive this years Thayer Award especially since this is the 35th anniversary of my classes graduation from USMA.
[update - today October 22, 2015 Gary Sinise is receiving this years Thayer Award at USMA, West Point, NY.]
I posted the picture above and noticed how much taller the West Point CSM is than everybody else in the picture, :-)

LTC Stephen F., Gary Sinise is one of my heroes. He ranks up there with Tom Hanks. I had never heard of him before Forest Gump came out. He is an amazing, caring, man with military men and women. Thank you for posting this.

I thank it is well deserved he does a lot of work on veterans issues and was instrumental in the funding of the WWII memorial and now working toward a Disabled Veterans Memorial

I think he is truly deserving of this award. He fully supports the military and veterans in many causes and does it without politicizing the issue.

I love it, simply outstanding! On a side note, The Gary Sinise Foundation have a copy of my book and manuscrip, UNIFORMS, and are interested in possibly making my book into a movie. Now, that's exciting!!!!!
