Who has seen Jurassic World and what where your thoughts?

Personally I thought they were beating a dead horse with a similar plot. The visuals were more up-to-date but overall they should have stopped at the third movie. Even my oldest son (7 year old and absolutely loves dinosaurs and owns the collectors edition trilogy box set of the first ones) said it wasn't the best.

It was a fun romp.

I didn't go in expecting Shakespeare, and I didn't get Shakespeare. I got an homage to the original, but done in a little different way.

For "kids" who didn't see the original 20 years ago, or those who have never experienced Jurassic Park on the big screen, this would be amazing, and would make you want and see it. For those of us who saw JP, it's not quite as good, but it's better than 2 & 3.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS, you're pretty much on the money here.

My 16 year old son is a dino-freak, and this movie franchise has been his all-time favorite.  So, he's been salivating for this one for a full year since the early trailers were released.  All he asked for for his birthday was that we all go as a family on opening night.  So we did.  It opened here last Thursday.  To be honest, I would have preferred going in for a root canal, as I thought 2 & 3 were that brutal.  So, I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by the overall storyline of 4; it was indeed something new and original, it paid homage to it's roots, but it was it's own film.  The only real issue I had with it (as I do with many a film) was the portrayal of the government contractors as cold, greedy, unfeeling war mongers who will stop at nothing to capitalize on a potential concept.  Typical Hollywood agenda!

I really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's a bit of a rehash of the first film, but it was fun to see what the park would be like if it were open. Especially if catastrophe struck. It's not just a handful of people fighting to survive now, it's thousands of folks. What's the contingency plan for that? You'd think a place like that would have an airtight plan. And I loved the idea of dinosaurs (raptors) being trained. Gave a new tense edge to the film. (Can they really be trained? Will they be loyal or turn on their masters?)

I also like that they explained the inconsistency with the dinosaurs' appearance and current real-world discoveries about their appearance. They had a line in there saying how they fill in the genetic gaps with other animals' DNA to complete the sequence and real dinosaurs wouldn't look anything like what they have in the park. That was the biggest plot hole of the series and they resolved it in a sentence.

Personally, I hated The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. It felt like they were deviating from the original story too much. They take place on another island with free-roaming dinosaurs and a weak plot. They just felt like poor excuses to get some people trapped on an island with prehistoric predators. Jurassic World feels more like a direct sequel to Jurassic Park, not only taking place on the original island, but actually completing and opening the park to the public. You could skip The Lost World and Jurassic Park III and not miss a thing of importance.

I enjoyed the heck out of it.

I saw the original in theaters and still enjoyed this one. I'm guessing that the few that didn't like it built it up in their heads before seeing it.

On a different note, the theater I saw it in had D-Box technology and every time a dinosaur roared or stomped on the ground my chair vibrated as if I was in the movie. Pretty neat technology and I hope to see utilized for other movies.
