I think people have taken what could have been a great movement to raise awareness and to foster better mix-raced communities and have now turned it into something that will go down in history as the complete opposite. I think the current environment is push wedges further between the races and the violence will only continue until people realize that all lives matter. It is awful that recruits are dropping out of training because of an unprecedented fear of being targeted. Police officers know they will be in harms way on the job, but with executions at the gas pump it's pretty hard for them to recruit.

I don't know the fix, but we've got to find it and protect those who protect. A few get out of control and do stupid things then all are labeled. Deal with those bad apples quickly and decisively. The police, in general, do their job correctly. It's not right to target anyone like this. BUT this unfortunate series of events has brought a topic that also was taboo for years; police misconduct. I mentioned it before in another post where the poor, uneducated, and not wanted people were picked on and picked up for decades and no one bat an eye. From urban decay to rural spread folks were beat, imprisoned, and misrepresented, while many in positions to make a difference did nothing. It's not a racial thing being that my description includes all skin tones. Now people are fed up with the impunity the police have enjoyed and the strong influence they've extorted on politicians. But at no time should the populace take matters into their own hands and kill a police officer for no other reason than he's just a cop. You shouldn't want to wantonly kill anyone. You've lost all credibility and IMO you're a coward and a murderer. Cops have a sh*tty job, but those that are good cops do it because they're making a difference in their communities and want to see things better. And like Serpico did with his exposing of the unfairness and corruption in NYPD, those that are not good cops and only there for the power trip and self betterment need to be ostracized and fired with no chance of joining another force; locked up, charged with crimes, and convicted if so needed. And mainstream media has a LARGE stake in this; they hype up the masses, push trigger buttons with certain folks, and sit back and wait for the carnage while playing "it wasn't our fault". They're not the direct killers, but mainstream media is very culpable in many of the ills plaguing this nation. Most don't have the intestinal fortitude to get the job done and fewer yet the skill unless they ambush an officer but the political atmosphere in this country has emboldened a newer generation of "thug" mentality that look at killing an officer like some sort of right of passage while not even getting a "scolding" from the past administration. The government mouth pieces and race baiters have made it seem that all police officers are out to kill people of color when the truth is white males are killed by police at twice the rate of young black men. All killing is tragic and is the last thing an officer things about as they go about their day but a line of duty death occurs in less than one tenth of one percent of all use of force incidents. That includes both legitimate and excessive force situations. We in law enforcement have been in the community policing mode since the mid 1980s and the number of complaints regarding the use of force have declined steadily over the last two decades. These facts are rarely related because they don't fit the agenda of sensationalist journalism.
