What are your thoughts on the new Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and will you be buying them sooner or in 2027?

I personally love to lead by example and plan on buying them once I have Soldiers that have them because the best way to show them how they are worn is to wear them yourself.

I like them but we need to stop trying to change uniforms every few years SSG Benjamin C.. I spent a day with SMA Dailey in NYC two years ago and I was hoping he had his new uniform on but he had his blues on as I wanted to see them. He didn't want the new uniform to take away from the solem service we were at for 911.

I think they are a sharp looking uniform. I love the WWII look. I think it is the most iconic period of the Army. I remember the the old school regreens. I wasn't a fan of them. they didn't look the part. I think these should have replaced. I wish that was an option. I will be getting a set as soon as they are able to purchase.

Personally I wish the Army would just pick a uniform and stick with it. We phased out the Greens and went to the ASUs. Now they come up with a new (technically old) uniform to be worn. I am no longer in the service but when I was I had a Green uniform, ASUs, BDUs, DCUs, ACUs, when I got out we had just been issued the OCP uniforms. So many uniforms have been implemented in such a short time frame. How long will this uniform last?

I love them! However like most people, I'm tired of the uniform changes. And as a senior NCO or Officer, we should be the main ones to wear them as to set the example regardless if we do not have to wear them until 2028.

The look is ok but honestly why are we changing uniforms... again? I can see if the old ones were broken or ineffective in some way, but they were not. This literally amounts to wasting money on a nothing that troops are now going to have to go and get and the Army spends millions of dollars if not more to transition to these as well as eat costs for the older now phased out uniforms.

Also, for reserves, I just wont be buying a set unless are wearing it at monthly battle assembly. With the ASU also authorized as concurrent formal wear I presume that's also going to happen across the board. We will wear what we are issued and authorized. With the shoes being $150 and $50 for the garrison hat I cringe at the rest of the price tag.

Don't get me wrong I like them. Just hate forking over money to get them. When I was on active we did uniform inspections all the time, and needed to be in either Greens at the time or the new blues as they were coming out. I can't see paying for another set to be honest, to only wear maybe once or twice. Plus by 2027 I will have three years left. So, don't think I will be getting them.

I will say I like the idea of wearing the shirt and pants as a class B like they did in WWII as an office or everyday uniform. I cannot stand our current class B uniform. Every time I put mine on for something I feel like an airline pilot or ice cream salesman.

The uniform changes are really tough on guard and reservists. My current ASU with shoes hat and tailoring ran me around $850 and I just received my 1 time clothing allowance of $400. Now if they want to give me another $400 clothing allowance say at year 3 of my contract to put towards the $900+ cost of the shiny new uniform I’ll get it next year.

My other fear is the army dropping the current trend of allowing soldiers to wear the combat uniform in office and drill etc. I would hate to have to cart another full uniform around with me for a drill weekend especially when I drill with my home unit is over 1200 miles from my HOR.

I have only seen pictures, and all the pictures were of hnad selected soldiers(most likely). I will have to see them and talk to someone who has worn them before making a judgement.

I love the look, and I agree with you on the part of you can show your subordinates proper wear if you yourself is wearing the uniform, however I'm not sure I'd rush out to get the uniform. My point being like many others is the Army keeps changing uniforms every few years for no practical reason to me. I've only been in since 2010/11 but already changed from UCP to OCP and from APFU to IPFU. Now we're adopting a new uniform. Long answer short, I'd probably wait to go out and get them.

I have said it before. Unless HQDA makes class B and or Class A mandatory for all office duties, it will be just like our Blues and hang in the closet. They have to make the ACU only for field environment or things like that. Introducing a new uniform won’t make a difference if you can wear ACU’s to the office.

I believe the Army Green Service Uniform is a great distractor. Don't fix something that is not broken. Why do we need to move to ANOTHER uniform? Why can't the Army focus on problems we are dealing with... suicide, low morale, discipline, etc. Painting the surface doesn't cover the hole. No, I am not interested in spending $900 for that Marine Corps looking uniform.

That is not new. That is going back to the old. If the picture is correct, that's WWII uniform. I have a mixed feeling about this. It seems like we are trying to keep the legion alive because WWII Soldiers are almost gone. I remembered when I heard of the news about the last WWI Soldier past away. I was in High School then. The last Dolittle's Raid veteran died last year. It is sad, but I would not want to remember my father who I respect dearly by wearing his uniform. I would want to my children look at my era and be distinguishable. For me, people from the WWII era have distinguished themselves and their things should be iconic, not convoluted by us wearing one.

Let our uniform be distinguishable from other eras and let not convoluted our predecessors' legacy by us "imitating" them, but let us "emulating" them.

Long over do uniform change. No one wanted to get rid of Khaki's and every damn survey I ever took or saw always said bring them back. I never knew What GEN Schoomaker was thinking when he went to the ASU's. I am retired now, so I won't be buying them.

Just like people do things for bullet on an eval. Someone is taking action to get paid when they get out. All in the network. They look great but why the hell am I doing this again in one career window? For no other reason than they look good. Thanks for looking out for the lower enlisted SNCOs. Another uniform, another buck. It’s like mandating Soldiers sew a rank to their ACH or Gortex. Non issued and no one is going to pay for that.

They look sharp. However, they also are a waste of my clothing allowance. I was forced to pay for blues, which cost way more than my clothing allowance, now another uniform change. Complete waste of money. Hopefully I will retire before they force this on us.

I just picked up my uniform from alterations. I’ll wear them tomorrow. I work as a Casualty Assistance Officer full time. I’ll wear the ASU’s for funerals and planeside service, but now I can wear the AGSU’s for other visits to the family, rather than wearing my OCP’s.

I can’t stand the constant uniform changes. I’ll give you that the BDUs that replaced the fatigues we wore were possibly an upgrade but I liked the fatigues and the look of a squared away soldier.

The Army Green Service Uniform is the "Classic" Army uniform. It is recognized worldwide because of the thousands of movies about World War Two and Korea. The Army has had an identity crisis with it's uniform since the AG-44/344 and later the blue thing. The other services have pretty well kept color and style very similar for years. I used to cringe when someone would ask me while I was in greens or blues "what service are you in?" Army. " Oh, I didn't recognize the uniform."
I believe we had the same uniform, minus the stand up collar since the early 1900s and the officers went to the pinkish hued "elastique", a type of gabardine, trousers in the 1930.
I had a very good full uniform from WWII that I outgrew. Now that it's come back, I will get a new one. I've got the brown boots to go with it

It is a complete waste of money. The Army decided to get rid of the greens and keep the traditional blues since that has been the color of the US Army since the days of George Washington. Then they decided that they needed a green uniform simply because the younger generation didn't recognize the blue uniform that has been around for so long. Just because people don't know history is not a good reason to waste all the money that will come from the AGSU. The pinks and greens looked great during WWII but I'm not a fan of the AGSU. They don't look the same and it's completely not needed. The Army traditionally has worn blue. If you're not convinced, go check Google and find a picture of George Washington, check Civil War pictures, Army Honor Guard, etc.... Too bad someone high up needs a bullet point for their evaluation.

While I think the new uniforms are sharp and they bring back that "old time feeling", they are not functional. In promoting comradery, unity and moral, I believe there are better things to use money on the welfare of soldiers than a implementing a rustic non functioning uniform. More focus needs to be attributed towards brother & sisterhood, equality, empowerment and advancement with appropriate educational tools that will not in only benefit the soldier for today but also for tomorrow whether they remain enlisted or choose to discharge into civilian life.

I was in the military for many years serving with several hats from private to Sr. NCO. In my day, everything included "includeness" not "inclusiveness".

Put those uniforms away, let's refocus a little more!
