What are your thoughts on "Unconscious Bias" and the awareness training that is currently being provided by the military?

I would first need to know what the training consists of. You posted a wiki definition of unconscious bias which tells me what it is, but not what the training consists of. I would support anything that creates a bond between brothers and sisters in uniform, but not something that focuses on what makes us different. This smells too much of identity politics being injected into our armed forces. Will it be a tool utilized to bash leaders of different races for corrective actions? or will it be utilized to fix a very real issue concerning the Phillipino Mafia, White nationalists, Blac Block, and a host of other cliques that have formed in the military?

A female veteran was honored at the Veterans Day ceremony hosted by a small Southern California city. Someone suggested to the Commander of the local VFW post that she should be invited to join. His response was to direct her to the VFW auxiliary where the spouses of veterans belong. Seriously. I think there are many veterans who would benefit from such training, don't you?

Bias exists -- no question. But an unconscious bias is an oxymoron; that is, the terms "unconscious" and "bias" are mutially exclusive... kind of like "jumbo" and "shrimp" or "guest" and "host."
The definition of bias is: "inclination or prejudice against one person or group, especially in a way considered to be unfair." (source: Oxford online dictionary). Both "inclination" and "prejudice" are acts of volition -- that is, they are decisions we make. If it is an unconscious act then it is not intentional and therefore, by definition, it is not bias.
This whole concept is yet another example of PC gone mad. In my honest and humble opinion, this is yet another tactic being used to eviscerate and destroy the will and ability to fight of the American soldier.
If you read Saul Alinski's "Rules for Radicals" and you will see that this is one of the methods employed by Marxists to destroy the west.
The fact that this has made its way into the command structure of the military should give you chills and real cause for concern with regard to the future of America.
Just remember that you can be ordered to salute a turd. It doesn't mean you have to respect it.
My advice: endure the training and keep your thoughts to yourself. Bide your time and then VOTE THE MARXIST PUKES OUT OF OFFICE

everyone has bias, whether due to upbringing or experience. you may see a disheveled man on the street and immediately think he is a vagrant. others see women trying to join the VFW or DAV and automatically send them to the Auxiliary units for spouses. I don't believe any "training" is going to do away with bias, whether conscious or unconscious. what the training CAN do is make service members more aware of their biases and more likely to see people and situations through a different set of eyes.

Oh this is just another spin on trying to make White Soldiers feel bad about being White, and not born black. I was, am and have been sick of this crap. Just because every time that ANY White Soldier turns around and does ANYTHING better than a minority, the race card is played. The race card is a catch all, and is used as such. I once had a black soldier call me racist because “I” failed him on a PT test. Yep, he flat out failed the push ups, sit ups, and the run. I had another NCO watch and keep tabs over my soldier, because he was one of those that called racism when the sun shined down upon his head! Also the same one that took me to the commander because I refused to call him an african American. Told him to show me his African passport and I would gladly call him anything he wanted. End of the story he was is and will never be an African, so............................
