SFC Private RallyPoint Member, President Trump is doing precisely what he said he'd do while campaigning, so none of his actions should be surprising. EOs are simply one of the tools afforded the president, and I don't see them going away anytime soon.

It depends on the Executive Order. They exist because sometimes it necessary to clarify how the executive branch will carry out its duties of enforcing the laws of the land. However sometimes they are abused as part of government over reach by the executive branch trying to create an imperial Presidency. I felt that the Obama administration over reached quite a bit, and was aided by the press.

So far, I do not think the Trump administration has over reached. But I am glad we have an adversarial press once again. Things would be great if we just had an intellectually honest press.

To me it's funny how EOs are now an appropriate tool for the President to use, but when Barack Obama used them, it was unconstitutional.

I personally have no objections to their use...even George Washington issued an executive order. I just can't stomach the current hypocrisy.

As with Obama, I still feel a lot of the stuff he is using Executive Order for should go via Congress. Certainly the most recent one on immigration restrictions should have gone via Congress and been debated. Understood why the Executive Order easing up on Obamacare avoided the Congress and I am fine with that one just going through the White House. Obamacare replacement should go through Congress though and be voted on. However, we are seeing a lot of this because Obama set the precedent on this crap and the follow-on Republican regime is taking advantage of the past precedent.

It wasn't too long ago that people were complaining about President Obama's executive orders but are now taking a more nuanced view once a person they support is doing it. I suspect some of the orders are fine and some will be shot down by the courts. What remains to be seen is if Trump will honor or ignore decisions of the judiciary as there are some rumblings that he may not. Too soon to tell though.

He does see himself as the modern Andrew Jackson, the "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it!" guy, but we'll see.

They have their purpose, but I'm among those who feel their use has been abused. In a perfect world, I'd like to see the matters then referred to Congress for full establishment or rejection. Again, in a perfect world, that would also give the citizens of the U.S. a voice in the matter.

Essentially (and I could easily be wrong on the fundamental setup), I think they should serve as either an emergency way to get something truly necessary accomplished when Congress is unwilling or unable, and as a "Commander's Intent" system of guidelines

Every NCO, wants to asisit a new L2 get his feet grounded. There job is to educate the new L2 on the operational functions within there unit and up. Plus brief on the personal that he is in charge of. A good L2 will see this as a benifit, not intrusion into his or her leadership.

First Chucky Shumer is drawing his feet. Only three of his cabinste position are full. The Democrats are going on a scorched earth policy. Unlike the Republicans they will not work with Trump. And the have come out on TV and radio. So Trump has to go it alone. And he is putting in the hours.

Most of them are good - reversing the excesses of the previous administration.

But it would be a mistake to try to run bills through congress without bipartisan support. That is what Obama did, and that resulted in the opposition having no buy-in on the policies, and having them all thrown out by the succeeding administration as a consequence.

One of the talk political talk shows this weekend had former SECDEF Gates as a guest. Gates said that he had served under 8 presidents and when asked basically the same question he said it is business as usual for a president to issue a flurry of executive orders either renouncing or enhancing those of their predecessor.

Whats the real question you are asking here?

I teach History and one of the things I emphasize is the use of Primary Documents. President Trump and the media gave us a great example. If you simply follow the media then you are aware that President Trump has begun killing Muslims if they touch American soil. But if you read the Executive Order, Primary Document, you can see that the new restrictions are reasonable and timely!

President Trump is very simply fulfilling his campaign promises. He's a business executive, not a politician. Successful business executives are men of action. Politicians typically move at a much slower pace, always worried about the "political" impact of each and every action. The Americans who elected President Trump did so because they (me included) were tired of Washington D.C. politics as usual......perpetual stalemate. The same leaders from both parties in charge for decades, scratching each others backs, voting themselves pay raises, precluding themselves from participating in the "Obama Care," while telling the "people" that they really care about us!! That was and is all BS. It's too bad POTUS can't sign an Executive Order to mandate Term Limits on Congress!!

It seems to me that President Trump is intent on showing that his campaign promises were not empty rhetoric and that his priorities are national security, international trade, more jobs, enhancement of small businesses, reducing the size of government and attempting to get government moving again. All while staying within the framework of the Constitution. If this wasn't being done then the "vocal minority" would be screaming that he isn't doing what he promised. If we had a mainstream media that reported factual truth instead of creating twisted hyperbole to arouse the unknowing and build ratings, this would be more obvious

ABC, NBC, CBS,PBS all bemoaning the unfairness of his latest action which is causing a tiny % of travelers any inconvenience.
Out come the Liberals opposition screaming its anti-religious.
Followed by Learned pundits who suggest at least its Un-American. At worst a violation of the Constitution.
Sigh.
No one has been beheaded. No one with legal authority has failed to pass over the border.
But one thing should be clear. Anyone who is not a citizen of the U.S.A. has any Constitutional right to pass over our borders. Regardless of religion, creed or nationality.
To paraphtase Lincoln; ten angels all saying they should won't change the Constitution.
And certain ex-Presidents need to honor their own promise, and put a cork in it!

If the CIC by Executive Order decides that the current laws on the books need to be enforced then it is in his scope of work and authority to see that it is done. He cannot be responsible for the failures of the previous administration and former President however he needs to consider what was done before and if they were legal and constitutional. It clearly is the new and current Presidents position to protect Americans and to enforce the laws for the good of our country !! The first and foremost obligation of the Federal Government is to protect its people. If toes get stepped on and others are butt hurt so be it .

Can you control what is in the current or proposed EO or effect the outcome? Yes, Do what you can to effect a positive outcome. Can you control what is in the current or proposed EO or effect the outcome? No, then don't worry about it as will only make you crazy because you are getting your underwear in a twist for no good reason. Trump has been in office 10 days. All the other POTUS have been given longer honeymoons.

So far out of all the Presidential Actions there are 7 Executive Orders, all giving direction to agencies in the executive branch. There are 11 Presidential Memoranda, all giving direction to agencies in the executive branch. Finally, there is one Presidential Proclamation, which is a one off thing that doesn't extend beyond the one week that's proclaimed...

Given the above, I feel that we now have an individual in the Oval Office that understands how the process works and is using it as it should be used. I had my reservations leading up to the inauguration, but since then I've been feeling better about him taking the reigns.

My concerns are directly related to all of the yahoos out there rioting and committing crimes. President Trump isn't doing anything so far to ruin this country or take anything away from anyone. From what I can see from the little he has done so far is that he is trying to keep his campaign promises and he is trying to restore America's glory.

THIS GUY scares a lot of people whether they are active or civilian or prior service. He is creating a business relationship with Russia by easing some sanctions. He believes he is above the former presidents by not complying with requests regarding his taxes, divestiture of his holdings, and by installing unqualified yes men into crucial/critical posts of the United States Government. He is tearing down the human rights of people in this country, he is creating opportunities to destroy private lands because he has vested interests in certain types of companies that are being prevented from operating on those private lands. He does not care for the common people and he certainly does not care the military.
