What Army regulations address active duty members being allowed to volunteer as firefighters while off-duty? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-army-regulations-address-active-duty-members-being-allowed-to-volunteer-as-firefighters-while-off-duty <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It doesn’t have to be firefighting specific but doing volunteer activities. I’ve attempted to get commander approval and my squad leader won’t push it up because it’s to high risk, but there is a lot of people that I know that are active duty and firefighters... so first are there any regulations on it? Second if my squad leader still doesn’t wanna push it up how do I bring the regulation up without sounds like an a** especially being an e-2. There are no regulations outlining this. If your supervisor doesn’t approve of it, use the open door policy. Before I signed anything I personally visited the locations, talked to supervisors, and most importantly I made sure Safety was the priority. We did this in case there was an accident. A line of duty investigation will be conducted and you may or may not be covered by the military. So I&#39;d recommend a COA with you writing a succinct memo to your chain of command. Include the duty position, work hours, normal day to day activities, list all risks and your mitigation plan. Last, this volunteer position will not in any way affect your military position. You are basically writing a memo that your commander can use because surely he/she will get an opinion from JAG and their rater. There&#39;s no cut and dry regulation I am aware of, but Commander always has veto power if they believe it will effect good order and discipline in the unit, ie you&#39;re too tired to do your job after fighting fires all night, or you get injuried or killed and hurt unit readiness. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Thu, 28 Jun 2018 01:17:52 -0400 2018-06-28T01:17:52-04:00 2018-06-27T21:38:30-04:00
