I just moved from the Natty Guard to the Marines and am catching flack for trying to wear my AAM and ARCAMs. I read the MCO and it states ribbons from prior service are authorized IF there is a Navy/Marine equivalent. Am I misunderstanding the regs? For the Marine/Navy equivalent for your AAM it is the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM). Good conduct medals, achievement medals, commendation medal, and deployment ribbons are all ok. The boot camp ribbon and other stuff the army does isn't gonna cut the mustard. The biggest thing to do is run it through S-1/IPAC and make sure everything that is allowed is reflected in MOL. If it's in MOL you will be able to appease the doubters. You will always get some static for being different or having more ribbons than some folks but as long as it is in the books they can't prevent you from wearing what you earned. Be proud of your roots.
