Having a degree plus leadership experience goes a long way, but not far enough. If you are going into Human Resources, for example, you'll want all the certifications that go with that field. Safety (OSHA) is a good one but you need either a degree or lots of training and an OSHA 30 card, at least. But again you need certifications and what not. SO you really need to research what career field you are looking for and at what level you wish to start. Often even entry level jobs have set requirements anymore.

What are you wanting to be when you take the next step? It depends on what field you will truly be interested in. You could research the skills and schools that will translate to the most money in the civilian sector, but if you end up hating going to work those 40+ hour workweeks, all the training is wasted. There are so many marketable skills that translate easily. I recommend taking one or more self-assessments such as Pelocity that will fairly accurately match your natural talents and interests and go from there. I know and don't ever let them tell you that being a BN reenlistment NCO and if you did a job and you went to school for Career Counselor, you can transfer all that over as an Advisor on your Resume because when I was deployed to Iraq and they took me out of my Platoon Sergeants Position and put my in the Shitty BN REUP job I used to my ADV and reenlisted 159% soldiers and NCOs in combat zone. You don't think I used that on my resume as a Senior Advisor to the Commander and CSM or in civilian world we can call them Directors or Executives Managers. Its all how you word your resume. People pick up on that. Just food for thought. SFC William Stephens A. I was mostly looking for which schools in in general will appeal to any employer, such as how I was thinking more along the lines of how SHARP, EO, and MRT would benefit those in HR or management roles. However, your responses remind me that I have a lot of hard thinking to do before I transition to retirement regarding what I want to be when I grow up.
I am interested in counseling and have given thought into continuing my education with a Masters in Social Work, either to work at the VA or private practice. However, due to the clinical hours involved in that graduate degree I will most likely have to finish it after I retire. Lately I have been questioning this path though, and have begun considering application to an MBA program.
