At the last minute the orders were changed and steamed straight across with a dumpy oiler. No stop in Pearl. I am still angry with the Navy and that was '69!<br />The highlight of the trip across the Pacific was when someone came up with the bright idea of having a sailor from each ship trade jobs for the day. One of my fellow IC man was selected. They rigged up the Boatswains chair. My first base was Eglin, my second was Monkey Mountain RVN, and my final base was Homestead. Then i was stationed at RAF Lakenheath. Both were great. My Tech school was Lowrey AFB Denver Colorado and that was also awesome! Before joining I was a dependent at RAF Upper Heyford with the F-111's. My dad did 2 consecutive overseas long tours which meant we we there from 1981 to 1991.
