Earlier I responded to the question where was your first assignment after initial training. Some of us served one or two tours while others served until retirement and many of us transferred to the retired reserves. Transitioning from the camaraderie of military life affects each person in different ways but I expect we all spent time thinking about transitioning out of the military just prior to leaving the service.
In my own case I left the military involuntarily as part of a RIF as a Captain in October 1992. My last active duty assignment was in a nondescript building in Bethesda. I accepted a commission and became a Reserve Officer and served as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee [IMA] until I was mobilized after 9/11/2001. My last assignment in the military was at the Pentagon where I served until May 2008.
Request you add the year as well as the location you left military service.

Fort Bragg, North Carolina - 1996.
After rereading LTC Ford's statement, I thought about something else related to these questions - What was your first military post and when?
McConnell AFB - @ birth - 1956.

LTC Stephen F.
SSG Robert Webster, I think that confirms you as an Air Force "brat" :-)
We share the same birth year by the way.

LTC Ford, Your assumption is true, but I could have been an Army "brat", because my father had been in the Army previously and was considering the Army when he reenlisted.
Are you a "brat" also? If so did you go to school overseas?
