Mine is Tricare, i have 16 years in and know exactly what my value is outside the military, i am prepared for my retirement in 4 years and ready to go. but i will not get out before retirement because i want Tricare, i wear this uniform for my country yes, but mostly for my dependents and the medical care this affords them.

What would your final straw be?
What would cause you to get out before you intend to?

If I had a choice (which I don't since I am indef), most likely a pension at the time of retirement or medical

I retired in 2006 and understand what you mean!  Be prepared though.. Tricare has been on the block for years now, and as far as I can tell it will remain on the block.  This was the big ONE for me as well.

MSG Huffman,

I'm scared, I cannot find a decent alternative, and the options are just getting worse. Every time my wife reads something about Tricare in the news she wants me to get out before retirement, but i see other options to bet on for Insurance and we rely heavily on it.

So far so good... the only thing that has had any traction has been the increase in the enrollment fees to match the COLA index... no big deal as far as I'm concerned.  I don't think it will ever go away completely, but I'm sure it will increase in enrollment fees and co pays.  I still think I'll be there and I still believe it will remain less expensive than alternatives.  I just hope it's not wishful thinking!

Considering I pay about nine times as much with my civilian insurance (which I am required to be on currently) I WANT Tricare for myself and my family for the rest of our lives. The retirement after 20 years with a pension is also a great benefit.

I would leave angrily if any of the benefits promised to me when I joined were removed. I can understand removing them for new people before they come in, but you cannot take away benefits to those of us who have served for years.

1LT Brooks, I agree completely!  I am mature enough to understand that times change, and programs must evolve as a result; HOWEVER, (and I understand this may sound selfish.. but damn it, it's only right) if you are going to change the "rules", then at least have the intestinal fortitude to grandfather those who signed on under the existing rules and start the new rules for those that sign on afterwards.
