What can I do if I have been barred because I wasn’t ready to go to the promotion board?

Long story short i got barred because i wasn’t ready to go to the promotion board i didn’t know i was MLI and the MLI and promotion board was on the month of January which was my 4 year mark and 3 years SPC is this against regulation ? What can i do ?

Exactly What SSG Miles said what is your TIS. Because Yes you can be barred There are TIS restraints on Rank.

Bars, as a rule cannot be arbitrary, here must be a policy or regulation that supports the implementation. It sounds as if you knew there was to be a board and did not prepare. If you were unaware then that touches on your supervisory chain.

Case one, you knew here was a board, you have to deal with that. Case two, you were unaware and never notified, you have a case with your command team. Thank you for your service.

Overcome your bar by being ready to go to and pass the promotion board. Your bar is completely within regulation and within the intent of the bar.

New regulation. You have to go to board. If you don't have a flag or valid reason your command has to send you the minute you are eligible. Read the new promotions reg

You should have been receiving counselings from your leadership preparing or at least notifying your eligibility to be promoted and attend a board or soldier of the month. Soldier of the month boards prepare you for promotion board to get you more comfortable. Knowing the information to go to the board is one thing but standing in front SGM is another. The bar is there to get rid of people who don’t want to be promoted. The army invests in you and wants you to move up and succeed. If junior soldiers don’t move up then we’ll never have senior leaders for you to look up to. Question is do you want to be promoted? If so put in the work. If you don’t then ride the bar and get out!

Since we no longer have career PVT's or SPC's anymore its move up or move out. The Army doesn't have room for or the need to keep troops who don't want to step up and put up. Believe me if you have it in you go to the bard and take on more responsibility with that added authority.
