Back in August 2018, I went to MEPS to finalize my enlistment process to join the Air Force. All the necessary waivers got approved and everything was fine until I met with one of the doctors there. As he was looking over all my documents he was telling me that he was surprised that I got cleared for MEPS and whoever reviewed my documents and approved of my waivers must’ve missed a bunch of stuff. The biggest issue there was that I met with a psychologist for a bit and apparently I was diagnosed with social anxiety which I was never told about and I knew for a fact I never had it, I was just a shy kid. The doctor there told me that it could just be to bill the insurance and everything had a good chance of getting waived. Well 6 months later after I got more medical documents for MEPS to look at, my recruiter called me to let me know that I was disqualified from joining for 3 years since it was the social anxiety that disqualified me. Apparently it went all the way up to the head guy at MEPS since no one else knew what to do and he declined me. Is there anything I can do to fight this and prove that I never had social anxiety in the first place? I talked to my recruiter and since he’s newer to recruiting he wasn’t really sure what to do.

Research of current regulation and documentation is going to be crucial here. Ok, so you have a recruiter that is green, go to another one. Don't stop just because one is either unwilling or untrained. Look at the actual regs and ask that those be quoted and shown to you, do not accept less than that.

At the worst you have to wait 3 years and then go back at it hard. IF that is the case use the time for the best, keep in physical and mental shape and work at improving yourself in the meantime.

First, make sure you have all the records from that original physician who diagnosed you.

Second-research MEPS Med policy most disqualifying conditions expire after 5 years of no treatment. Don’t just look at when you were diagnosed. Som MEPS physicians use discretion rather than open there 40-1 to look at the actual policy.

Your original waivers-your recruiter send what we call a prescreen to MEPS medical staff and GS-9 medical technician will usually kick it to the ACMO or CMO for further evaluation if needed. If you received waivers originally you can ask to go to another MEPS.

Do you due diligence if you want in bad enough. Short of all that you may have to wait
