What can I do to better prepare for active duty army life? Is there that much of a difference to worry? Was the switch worth it, in your words? Feel free to vaguely describe your situation as to why you switched components.

Also, how's the MI training and what's the average day like? What's the best job to get form the 35 series and why? How can I stand out other than a good APFT score?

As for training..pay attention. You will learn some basic skills but as a 35 series most of your valuable training will be OJT. Listen to your NCO's and pay attention to what your Warrant Officer says, tasks you to do. Standing out..yes APFT, study for promotion boards, shoot well (expert) and again pay attention to your NCO's. Best of luck.

When I went from Reserves to Active Duty, I can attest that mentally I was not really prepared. My brain was still set on Part Time Soldier status. Boy, was that a real eye opener for having gotten in trouble a few times.

Thank you sergeant! Was it the fact that it went form a casual weekend thing to a 24/7 life style, or was it more strict?

PFC (Join to see) - Both, really. On the weekends in the Reserves, I only had to wake up on time twice....and even if I was late, it wasn't that too big a deal. Then I get on AD and boy were my eyes opened. Also, I went from a Reserve Field Hospital to Combat Engineers. The OPTEMPO was two sides of the extremes. I mean, I finally did get adjusted, but it certainly took some time and some growing pains.

I just retired in 2014 and had some 35F aka 96bs working in the office. I will try to hunt them down. Contact FT Huachcua or a local unit to get an informal sponsor.
